Randy,
I really don't know who all is buried there. I'm hoping to get a
reading, or at least a more comprehensive list of names, but that may take a
while. It wouldn't surprise me if there were Dutch in the area. Many of the
burials are folks from Schale, Westfalen, which I'm finding had many ties to
the northern & central part of the Netherlands.
Several families at Schale can trace ancestry to the Rump family which
had descendants in the Netherlands, plus Kr. Tecklenburg (Westfalen), and

I am wondering if I have been taken off the e-mailing list? I haven't
received any
newsletters since August 7th or hasn't anyone been writing with any
questions.

Fastback is an old program used to backup files. When the files are created
they are also compressed and thus cannot be read by another program unless
the program understands the decompression algorithm. I used to have a copy
of this program but I no longer have it. You might want to check the web for
this.

Hi Gloria,
Being an old reporter, myself, I know someone of good knowledge of what
genealogical damage can occur needs to collar some reporter, preferably near
the site and be aggressive. One of the newspapers must have an office close
by, either the big Chicago paper or weeklies. They may have to bug them by
telephone and in person. Some editor eventually will give in.
Good luck,

Ernie,
Sorry I didn't reply sooner. Things have been very hectic lately. The
newspapers & TV stations know about the threatened cemeteries. Whether or
not they mention it depends on Chicago politics, unfortunately. The church

Did I read on Dutch Midwest newsletters that someone was reseaching
Peter van den
Berg? I just found out that Peter was a brother to my husband's
g-g-grandmother
Claartje. Claartje and her husband Jan Van Meerten came to America but
returned to
the Netherlands. I just received information that Peter was married to
Elisabeth
Geertrui Kinds and that they emigrated in 1878. I someone can help me
with information, I would enjoy hearing from you.

Dear Randy;
I have some family records given to me on floppy discs. They are formatted for MS-DOS, and were recorded with a program called Fastback Plus v.2.01. I cannot find this program anywhere, and probably would not know what to do with it if I did.
If you could help me figure out what to do with these to read them I would appreciate it.
Thanks much,

To Randy Bosma and list:
Randy, on July 24 you asked for info on the travel routes of the Chicago area
Dutch immigrants in the 1840s. I suggest that you read chapter 4: "The Journey
Across" in my book Faith and Family: Dutch immigration and Settlement in the
United States, 1820-1920, published in 2000 by Holmes & Meier of New York.
Another suggestion is to run the names of the immigrants in my Family Tree
Maker's CD #269 Dutch in America, 1800s. This will reference the ship lists,
which tell the port

I don't know if the site is real or not, but here's a place that lists
Fastback for sale at $10 - $15.

Google brings back a bunch of hits for the program.
Good luck;

Another thing you might try with regard to the records stored on the old
program:
If you are in a metropolitan area, or even if you are near a town of any
size, find a "computer geek" store, or rather a place that fixes computers,
etc. They usually have someone on staff that is knowledgeable about archaic
stuff, and if they can't help you unlock the data, they often know someone
who can for a reasonable price.
I had a program that was loaded onto 5 1/4" floppies, from the days when
