As one of those who hasn't yet posted, I think I'd better do my bit!
Actually, the people I'm interested in are from the Walsall area, which I know is not really BC, but unless someone sets up a Walsall Diaspora List, this is as close as I can get.
My 2 x gt grandfather, James WHITE, was born in Dorset in about 1836, but moved to Walsall Wood in the late 1870s with his family. His son Frederick, my great-grandfather, who was a miner, married a local girl Ann/Annie/Rosanna NEWMAN from Rushall in 1886. In a
What a good list. Marvellous idea! My Great Great Granddad was John
Savage, born in Bilston. By 1871 he was living in Pendlebury with his wife
and children. He worked in the mine owned by Andrew Knowles. By 1881 he was
in Castleford, Yorks, with some of his children. By then his wife had died -
the second ever burial at St Augustine's Pendlebury in 1874. By 1891 all
the Savages seem to have moved back to Pendlebury area, although I have not
yet traced the death of John. I do not know how long they staye

Tycho GAUNT married Elisabeth MADDOX in Rowley Regis in 1767. Elisabeth was
the daughter of Illedge MADDOX and Mary RANN and thus began at least 4
generations of Rann Dolphin GAUNT, b. 1768, 1824, 1853, 1887 all born in
London. In the 1881 census the middle two are Chemists and Druggists in
Southwark.
I would dearly like to contact any descendants.

Hello,
Thomas WILLIAMS and his wife Sarah GOUGH and all but one of their children left the Tipton/Sedgley/Bilston area in 1859 and moved to Rotherham, Yorkshire. They stayed here a few years and then moved on to Brightside in Sheffield, Yorkshire.
The child they left behind was their daughter Annie WILLIAMS. The other children all married and settled in the Sheffield area and also Derbyshire.
I have been unable to trace Annie though. All I know is that she was known as Aunt Annie who lived in Staffs an
Hello,
This morning I subscribed to the Black Country list. My husband's Copper
relatives emigrated from the Black Country about 1892 and settled in
Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, near Pittsburgh. Two brothers, James and
Joseph came with their families. James was a bricklayer and Joseph worked
in the steel mills here. I just wanted to introduce myself and my interest
in the Black Country.

Hi friends and cousins!
Thanks, Elaine, for kicking off our initial Roll Call. We have 13
subscribers at present, which isn't bad for starters.
My mining families moved, for the most part, to the area around Rotherham in
Yorkshire. Names include ALLEN, BROOKES, HYDE, FLAVELL and PORTER. They
started to move over before 1881, but the last lot - the FLAVELL family -
didn't go until about 1898.
Some of them moved around a fair bit. For example, the family of Absalom

Hi folks,
We have twenty members on this list so far, but not much traffic yet. Let's
post our interests again (hey, some people haven't even done it once yet!)
and see if we can get the ball rolling! Any stories or snippetts of info
relevant to the places our Black Country ancestors moved to would also be
very welcome.

As you know, the 1901 UK census was to have been placed on-line on
January 2nd of this year.
Apparently they are now considering not making it available. If you have

Dear friends,
This is a regular message to remind folks about the Rootsweb protocol
regarding viruses.
It is good manners to let people know when you have a virus, and might have
passed it on to them. If you have done so, you will have done it off-list,
because the Rootsweb system strips all messages of html code, which can
carry viruses. Also, as you know, you cannot post attachments to the
mailing lists, so viruses can't get through that way. So, if you think you
might have passed a virus on to someo
