2. Re: [ST MARYS] George Hankinson's MI's [1]
Hello Derrick thanks for your last posting. It seems to me that the work being carried out by your group negates the need to obtain George Hankinson's manuscripts. I think that your group is doing a wonderful job and your transcriptions will supersede and combine together all previous work by Hankinson and others. Wonderful, wonderful. regards, Bruce Ardern, St Marys List Administrator --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). Version: 6.0.48
3. [ST MARYS] Coppocks [1]
Sorry I can't be more precise at the moment. I am partly requesting this for myself (Coppocks in Hale) and partly for someone else. Any Coppocks from Ringway or Mobberley, especially in the 17th century? Jill Groves
4. Re: [ST MARYS] George Hankinson's MI's [1]
Bruce I have not seen the Hankinson papers in the Rylands Library. The work on them for St Mary's is being done by Christine McMurray. She tells me that there are two sets of Hankinson papers in the Rylands Library and that on occasion she has been handed the other set from the one in which he recorded the gravestones of St Mary's. The gravestones of St Mary's are recorded in four volumes plus a further one which contains an index. The set that you have been offered on microfilm seems to be the other on

6. [ENG-CHS-ST-MARYS-BOWDON] Bowden Church Visit [1]
Hi All Like Gina I too have recently had the chance to visit this lovely church. I got let in by the flower ladies on Friday 25 May (one lived next door to my cousin) and I just loved the chance to walk around inside and note the beautiful stained glass windows and old photos (one taken of the church in the year my gt, gt grandfather's sister was christened in 1821). I did ask if Derrick was around that day but he wasn't and I had to rush off to Bury anyway. ( My visit to Bowden was very spur of the momen
7. Re: [ENG-CHS-ST-MARYS-BOWDON] CONSTANTINE/RUSHTON [1]
Hello Maureen and Ruth, Thankyou so much for your replies, we are all so like minded, and Maurren it is good to know that I will have all the research facilities when we move to Melbourne, Australia in September. Widnes is just across the bridge from us in Runcorn, and I too, was so pleased to see the Village of Bowdon, were my roots lay, I just pictured my Gt Gt Grandfather standing in that Beautiful Church waiting to greet his Bride on the New Years Eve of 1809, it must of been quite cold in those days,
8. [ENG-CHS-ST-MARYS-BOWDON] CONSTANTINE/RUSHTON [1]
After having a very interesting visit to St Mary's Bowdon on Thursday last, and being helped by two very friendly Flower arranging ladies, they rang Mr Derrick Murdie who came to the church and was able to show us the very record of Marriage of My Gt GT Grandfather Thomas Constantine, who married His first wife Margaret Rushton in the church on 31st Dec 1809. they were recorded to be both of the Parish, so it would be very interesting to hear if any other Lister of the Parish of Bowdon, had either of those

Hello Gina, Good to know that there is a welcome and help at St Mary's Bowdon. My Gt x 2 Grandparents William FAIR and Elizabeth Wood married there circa 1831. I am in Queensland and can assure you there are many sources for Research in Australia. My Father was born in Widnes. 10. Re: [ENG-CHS-ST-MARYS-BOWDON] [CHS] LEIGH family research (Stockport) [1]
Hello Debbi You asked about the Leighs (see question below). First Mary Leigh (nee Garner) died 21 January 1868 and is buried at St Mary's, Bowdon. Derrick Murdie is the Bowdon Church Archivist and he will give you more details about the plot and headstone. He will see your query to the St-Marys-Bowdon List and respond in his own time (He's busy with decorating or home improvements at this minute). Mary, of course, was married to Thomas Leigh and they were enumerated (in the 1851 and 1861 censuses)

Patsy Bowdon Church records have quite a number of references to the Leather family. Without looking for variations of spelling I found 98 burials, 91 baptisms and 43 marriages. If you like to send your postal address to me at dcmurdie@fish.co.uk then I can post the full family report to you. We do request a donation to the Church for this service and the appropriate information on how to send this will come with the report. I look forward to hearing from you.
