Hello everyone,
Anyone out there with access to 1901 UK census? Looking for descendants of my
wife's family in Bristol.
Family is;
Thomas and wife Caroline Hill, of Bristol.
They had at least two children at the time, Sydney,b1890-d1942, and
Arthur,b1892-d1971.
Don't know if parents came to America or died in England, but Sydney and
Arthur both died in Montana. Sidney had a daughter Doris, who may still be in
England.
Sydney is my wife, Lynne's grandfather whom there is very little info on, and

Would suggest checking the English 1841 and 1851 and later censuses for
Redruth and Truro (I'm not familiar with the censuses after 1851 since my
ancestor came to the USA around 1854). The two towns are only 9 miles apart.
I believe these censuses are indexed and at the Family History Library. You
may also wish to contact the Cornish Global Migration Project. It is
located in the Murdoch House in Redruth. Volunteers are continuing to index
the migration of the copper and tin miners from Cornwall. They ca

Hello from Negaunee Michigan,
Now that we have the currant cookie recipe out of the way, I would like to
know a good history book on Cornwall. My wife is the expert by far on anything
English in our house. I thought someone could help me educate myself a bit
before we make the journey to Cornwall in the near future.
Best wishes, Paul
The Cornish Family History Library at Truro, Cornwall has a book entitled
"Annals of An Ancient Cornish Town--Redruth" by Frank Mitchell, 1946 (an
original compilation) second edition published 1985 by Dyllansow Truran,
Trwotsta, Trewirgie, Reduth, Cornwall, UK ISBN o 907566 85 5
It is a compilation from newspapers including the West Briton with some
selections from Redruth Select Vestry Book. It is excellent for
establishing the timeline of events. Some excerpts from my notes (the

I am seeking information on my great great grandmother, Emily Clemo and
her ancestry. She was born 6 Dec 1838 in Redruth, Cornwall, England.
She and her family subsequently moved to the USA sometime before 1863.
She was married to Thomas Benton Persons on 20 Nov 1863 in Dodgeville,
Iowa County, Wisconsin. I believe her father to be William Clemo(w) who
was born about 1801 in England. Her mother was probably Ann ????. She
also had a brother, Richard who was born 1836 in Truro, England. I have

Daphne DuMaurier (author of the novel Rebecca) has written a brief
history of Cornwall with photos.. I believed she lived near Redruth, but
not exactly sure. She also wrote Jamaica Inn, a novel about Cornish
smugglers.
This is probably not what you wanted, but I thought I would pass it along
anyway.

Hi Glynis - I see you are looking for a Phillips family in Redruth. I am
also looking for a Phillips family in the area. Do you by any chance have a
Susan Phillips who married Isaac Nichols (Nicholas)? She would have been
born abt 1810. There's a Richard Phillips -born abt 1786 - in St. Agnes
Parish.
