Hello All
Would someone please look up the 1851 Census for Jane Slack
she would be in her mid 50's agewise, and she was born in Newcastle, possibly living in Sunderland.
Regards and Thanks

Hi
The person at the death is generally a relative or a friend or neighbour.
As you have been told that the address is a miner's cottage you might try
looking for any of the family marrying someone with that surname.

Thank you for all the help with the certificates. I
have another unrelated question... or two.
John Clazey married Isabella Oswald in
Berwick-Upon-Tweed and their first son, George Oswald
Clazey was born there in 1816. Which Parish would I
check with to find his baptism and possibly marriage
of his parents? John was also said to be a
miller...is there an occupational directory for that
period of time?
I have also since heard from another list subscriber
regarding the Gray post I had in terms of research
Hi Ben, I no longer live in Sunderland but my family there inform me
that Barnes Infants School still exists.
I have a copy of the same photograph, as it includes my late sister,
Doreen Stott, who is standing directly below the picture nearest the
window. Regretfully I cannot name any of the other pupils.
I later attended Barnes School in 1928 and have a photograph taken in
the same first-year classroom. I will be pleased to e-mail a copy to
anyone interested.

Dear Stan
I just retrieved the attached.
I wonder you will you be able to help me.
My ancestors were Master Mariners/Free Mariners.
One of them was William Shepherdson (born .22 Nov 1690) (Master Mariner)who
we believed probably came from Bishopwearmouth (Sunderland).(His parents
were Wilm Shipperdson and Grace Neelson married on 4 June 1672
(Bishopwearmouth)
The only records we had was that he was married to a Ann Holman on 24 OCT
1714 at Saint Laurence, Ramsagte (Thanet), Kent, England . And sta
Hi
bit of a long shot but I have 2 Mary Middlemas with Sunderland connections
and wonder if you know anything about them. I know very little.
One married Thomas Newstob 1820 Sunderland. I think they moved to South
Shields.
Another is on 1841 census married to George Howey, with Thomas and Mary
Newstobs son Edward living with them. (I need to confirm Edwards baptism yet)
1841 Census, Sunderland District
Family Number: 51357.4
1841 Census, Sunderland - Low Street (HO107/321/12, Folio 4, Page 3
If it was South Hylton then the records would be in Bishopwearmouth, and
there is a John Robinson Oyston baptised there on the IGI 31.8.1806 born
25.7.1806 parents John Oyston and Sarah Coulson.
I have found it spelt OISTEN too.
Hope he's the one.
North Hylton would come under Monkwearmouth.
Hi Stan
I wondered about that as I saw somewhere that the old workhouse was used for
a military hospital during the war, I think it was Tyne and Wear archives,
pity they dont have records for 1921. Quite a way to travel from Trimdon! im
glad it shows his wife was present at the death.
Thanks

Hello,
While on this subject, my ancestor Alexander HOGARTH was publican of the
Aquatic Arms, 27 Sheepfold Road, Monkwearmouth in 1881 and Aberdeen Arms,
Wear Street, Monkwearmouth in 1891. Does anyone know anything of these pubs
and whether they still survive?
Regards,
Mark.

There was a Richard Wishart baptised at St Peter's Monkwearmouth 24.1.1823
son of Andrew and Hannah. They seemed to have had another son Robert Tinmouth
Wishart baptised the week after, and a daughter Isabella Maria baptised
23.3.1825.. A Andrew Wishart = Hannah Hall at St Michael & All Angels ,
Bishopwearmouth 14.9.1819.
There were Middlemass baptisms at Bishopwearmouth too, father George but no
Ann.
Sorry just too time consuming looking through the 1841

While on the subject of Sunderland Pubs in the 1827 directory there is a
Thomas Rowntree publican of the Norfolk Arms at Pan Quay also the Ship
Salisbury in Warren St. Anything known about these pubs? It's possible he is
an ancestor but there were a couple of Thomas Rowntree's about at the time.
He was a keelman around 15 years earlier

Hi David,
Could someone please tell me where Lawton Street used to be in 19th-century Sunderland? My Greatx2 Grandfather was the proprietor of a grocer's shop at No 1 Lawton Street, which I'd guess would be a corner shop, but I can't find the street on a current map.
Thank you
Mary O
Any help on these names would be very much appreciated. These families lived in several Durham Counties as they were working the coal mines. They new each other as they seemed to marry each other. Dates are around 1796-1880's the later emigrated to the US and we have many families here.
Thanks
