G'day
(I know I am tardy; still wading through the 2,000 emails that accumulated
during my hols!)
I have on my index of GLS & Bristol Immigrants to Australia pre 1888 Index
the family of Thomas & Ann TEAGLE who arrived as assisted immigrants per
1853 "Royal Charlie" (Port Adelaide SA).
Here they are on the 1851 census

Something for you to ponder on whilst you wait for the Smurfs to release the

Bernard Edward Thompson JOTCHAM made his way into the world on July 1st
1920. On August 8th of that year his parents Frederick Thompson JOTCHAM an

Hi Carole
I've always believed that "Farn indoor Servants" were the ones who did the
tasks like making cheese - Hawkesbury and the other villages along the scarp
int he area wre a long ay from markets and any perishable products like
surplus milk would have to be preserved in some way ... cheese would have
been a good way of doing his, wthout necessarily being a big cash product of
any farms.. There is a familty of TEAGLEs from Didmarton - my GGGUncle
Richard married Rachel TEAGLE -as his second wife - i h
I hope today to get the census pages for Alderley, Tresham and Horton. I
will look for Little Badminton as well.
On Friday or Saturday we hope to be able to walk down Back Street and Park
Street and solidly confirm who lived in which cottage and when. If we are
lucky then this will be available at The Get Together although probably not
in typed and printed form.
I will have the photocopier with me on Saturday and the handheld scanner. Do
we need to take the fiche reader ?
If there is anything specificall
Thank you Carol for those kind words. What a great tiem we had yesterday.
Where do all these researchers keep coming from ? So many exciting things
happened this weekend that I don't know where to start.
I will leave Cousin Bob Lawrence to explain about the TOGHILL / WATTS /
Warren farm mystery. We had a go at working out who lived where on Park
Street in 1901 but with so many new buildings we were not too successful.
However we will be next time because we will remember to take the 1891 index

Hi Nikki
Sorry to have to disappoint you but there is no sign of your elusive Thomas
or his sister Hannah/Anna Jane Watts on the 1841 census. I believe you
already have the entry for the family but if not....
John WATTS 48 Inn Keeper
Jane " 46
Isaac " 20
James " 15
Walter " 9
Robert " 7
George " 5
I can't find any likely Thomas's or Hannah/Anna's who appear to be with the
wrong families.

I have identified William BUTLER (on page 9 of the Hawkesbury pages, living
in a house on Inglestone Common, next to the Chapel) as the son of Anne
THOMPSON, the sister of "our" Mary Jane THOMPSON. It was this Anne who
occurs on Edward THOMPSON's death certificate , present at the death.
So William is Edward and Jane's nephew.

Can't see any Dancy's to fit with your details. There were a number of
Dauncey's living in Wotton-under-edge that could be connected to your
George.
Good luck and thanks for writing.

Do any of our listers yet have a copy of the will of John COOK made in 1833
(Gloucestershire Record Office reference 1833/48) ?
We need a transcript of this to assist a villager now living in the
property. A list of John COOK's descendants would also be welcome to see if
we can match any of them to this property.
I believe John COOK owned what is now Lilac Cottage. Lilac Cottage was the
Village Post Office. The post office is now on Back Street. The old post
office was on France lane. The old post office
Hi Carole
I have not realy been following this but can I take it John WATTS was
innkeeper at the Plough in 1841 and son Robert was innkeeper in 1881 so
where does Thomas fit in is he the expected son of Robert? It may be of some
help in the church at Tresham, there is in the left hand conrner a document
listing all the people who contributed to the rebuilding of the church it's
a who's who of the inhabitants at the time, the church is locked normaly but
the key is obtainable from the lady at the farm house
Robert has posted the will of John ASHBEE at
http://www.btinternet.com/~Robert.Millard/Willsweb/1822JohnAshbee.htm which
you will probably want to refer to. I have however made a slight omission in
the transcription which will be rectified tomorrow. Where John talks of his
daughter Maria in the first instance he refers to her as Maria EMER.
Maria's mother was Ann THOMPSON born 1750 daughter of William THOMPSON and
Elizabeth ALLEN ( nee something other than ALLEN).
Unfortunately I haven't come up with a ma

Hi There,
I worked with a Dave Brint in Oman for quite a while, his address is :-
Dave Brint, 17 Spey Drive, Auckley, Doncaster, D.N.9 3J.G. South Yorkshire,
whether he will be able to help you or not I dont know, but it might be
worth a letter. I have found about 24 on the I.G.I. 6 Marriages amongst
them, if you want them let me know.
Regards,
Maurice
The Dr Hulbert isn't one of mine - but an earlier twig from my tree (much
earlier) moved to Chipping Sodbury - I haven't linked them yet - but the
first one i found has the familt first name of Chapman - which you have to
admit is a bit rare!

I watched the new Johnny Vaughn chat show on TV last night. There was a few

Can't remember their first names.

Hi Douglas
Your William GARDENER is a bit of a mystery, as you say there was another William GARDENER born 1823 who just to confuse everyone called himself Lewis, probably because of his cousin William, I think your William was the son of William GARDENER born 1791at Horton and his wife Mary a nurse from Wickwar they did have a son John born 1828 at Hawkesbury on census in 1851 I think from the Burial records they lived at Petty France
other children James 1822 Elizabeth 1824 ( John 1828) James 1828

I have a photocopy of a card that reads as follows:

Who Departed this life, Jan 16th, 1877,
Aged 45 Years
And was interred at Hawkesbury Churchyard,
January 20th,
