Can anyone help Katie? (See letter below) Let me know and I'll get in touch with her. Doug Thompson Hello! I have only recently started looking at my family tree and when i was building it remembered thatmy dads proper surname is Shipp and not Lovell because his mother remarried when his proper dad died. His dad died when he was rather young so he doesn't know anything about the Shipp side of his family so i am trying to find more out! His dad's name was Guilbery Shipp which i have noticed isn't one of th

Hi Carole you wrote " I found the baptism of John, son of Joseph & Mary COOPER June 5 1814 and saw that it was performed by CORNWALL, Offcg. Minister. That's it - I thought - they waited until the Vicar was on holidays and had the ceremony then. Unfortunately another baptism May 25 1817 of William was performed by H J RANDOLPH, Vicar. So that was the end of that theory!" I noticed on the marriages that various ministers signed as performing the ceremony I don't think marriages were allowed at some po

Hi Bob and Doug I've just looked at the Banns Register and see that Henry Jones RANDOLPH replaced Nicholas MARSHALL as Curate sometime between 16 March 1802 and 18 May 1802. RANDOLPH continued as Curate/Vicar for many more years at least until 1826. I found the baptism of John, son of Joseph & Mary COOPER June 5 1814 and saw that it was performed by CORNWALL, Offcg. Minister. That's it - I thought - they waited until the Vicar was on holidays and had the ceremony then. Unfortunately another baptism May 25

Hi Listers If anyone out there is interested in volunteering to take photographs of War Graves have a look at www.wargraves.org.uk as they are always looking for people who have a few hours to spend, now and again, to help their project. I am the Co-ordinator for Gloucestershire, so if you are interested please email me with your name and the area you reside in and I can allocate a graveyard or two to you. 11. RE: [HWK] CHAPPELL & COOPER confusion! [1]
Hi Carole Joseph Cooper and Mary Thompson had 8 children, born between 1805 and 1824. Until 1812, they are baptised as being children of Mary Thompson, but "reputed father Joseph Cooper". After 1814, they are baptised as being of Joseph and Mary Cooper. Joseph and Mary were uncle and niece, so any marriage between them would have been illegal. It is explicitly prohibited in the "Table of Kindred and Affinity" which used to be commonly displayed in churches. I saw one a few weeks ago, but cannot remember w
12. [HWK] CHAPPELL & COOPER confusion! [1]
Hi All Time to make my contribution! The two Ann COOPERs were first cousins once removed, both being descended from Thomas COOPER and Martha ISAAC. In the case of the Ann COOPER who married Peter CHAPPLE, Thomas and Mary were both her grandparents and her great-grandparents thanks to the marriage (if I could only find it) of Joseph COOPER to his niece Mary THOMPSON. Witnesses to the marriage of Peter CHAPPLE and Ann COOPER were Robert and Elizabeth TUCK. Robert is presumably the husband of Harriet COOPER

Hi Angela, Robert, Doug and all. Thanks for your input. Just a little more to add from the birth certificate. James COOPER CHAPPELL was born 11 July 1862, Hawkesbury Upton. Father Thomas CHAPPELL, Shepherd, and Ann CHAPPELL formerly COOPER. Sept Qtr 1862 Chipping Sodbury 6a 155. I've checked the Hawkesbury baptisms between 1862 and 1866 but neither James or Daniel appear. 16. Certificate offer - GULWELL [1]
Hi Brian Do you want copies? Transcripts will be sent to Robert's on-line treasure chest in due course. Meanwhile I'm hoping to share Cousin Kay's donations with the wider Hawkesbury community. It seems to me a good idea to exchange copies of certificates - a sort of certificate swap shop - to save us all a bit of money. I'm happy to make my (mostly from Kay) collection available to all. On the subject of children of William GULWELL & Rachel WATTS I have the following extra information: Ada GULWELL marri

Bob I thought Robert was more likely to be Harriet's son than husband. Ann Cooper was then aunt to both Robert and Elizabeth. Incidentally, my files show Elizabeth as Elizabeth Tuck Cooper Thompson (for the usual reasons). Her daughter Mary Ann Tuck born 1860 completes 3 consecutive generations of illegitimacy! 19. Saddlewood Manor [1]
Hello Pat There was a full page article about Saddlewood in the Times property supplement yesterday. I don't know whether these go on-line. Apparently the house is owned by Sandy & Linda SCOTT who bought it with 20 acres and have since expanded this to 172. It doesn't say when they bought it but a previous owner apparently used half of one tithe barn (there are two) for his collection of cars. There are 14 outbuildings including a dovecote with 1000 nesting boxes. I expect that is original. A farm cottage h
