1. Re: [ENG-LIV] HOGAN/OWENS LIVERPOOL. [1]
Hi Barbara/Anthony I sent for my service record as a pilot in the RAF. This was a couple of years ago. Received a nice letter back from the records people in Gloucester and I quote" Because you left the Service fifty-six years ago, almost all of your documents have been destroyed in accordance with the MOD document retention policy, However, your RAF Form 543-Record of Service-is still held, and a copy of this is attached." The record of Service, slightly yellowed, is still an interesting document, gi
2. RE: [ENG-LIV] CENSUS SEARCH [1]
Hello David, Where is 29 Brook Street? There are only two that a search finds in Lancashire, in Salford - PARKER - and Windle - MONKS. I am surprised a street with this name does not show up in the Liverpool area but it doesn't. 7. 1841 lookup [1]
Hi everyone Not sure if this is easy or not, but wondering if SKS can do a lookup in the 1841 census for 44 Upper Beau Street, Everton. I'm hoping that Robert JONES (a bookkeeper) might be there (he's there in the 1843 directory). No worries if not possible. Thanks Riley Jones Melbourne, Australia

10. RE: 1901 census Lancashire Ancestory.com Advice needed [1]
Andrea, Just yesterday I used Ancestry.com for Everton, Liverpool, Lancashire 1901 Census and did find my husband's grandparents and his mother. The only problem was it was under the surname William and not Williams. After looking at the image itself, I could see why this happened. Check similar spellings of the name. Perhaps it is there. 11. RE: Please Publish Your Tree [1]
Hello Richard, I put my family tree online via Family Tree Maker who invite you to make a gedcom when you have reached a certain number of entries. Their process is relatively easy to use and edit. However, I prefer to use Rootsweb freepages. http://www.rootsweb.com/ Learning how to upload and edit etc is not too difficult once you know how... and therein lies the secret!!! I have become very familiar with the 'HELP' button and there is a freepages help list which is as it implies, very helpful. There
12. Re: [ENG-LIV] marriage help [1]
Hi Carolyn, Freebmd is working for me and the marriage details are Sep 1850 Liverpool Vol 20 p 444 The marriage certificate won't give Martha's birthplace but as it will give her father's name and occupation it may be enough to pin down her birthplace to a specific county or city. 14. Re: [ENG-LIV] Richard Hagan - Ermine (Emma) Brew marriage 25.12.1841 [1]
Hi John, I just looked at the images on freeBMD for Dec 1841 & the only HAGAN is Richard. The reference is Liverpool Volume 20 Page 166. The other names on this page include Grinine BREED which if the writing was bad could have been mistranscribed from Ermine BREW If you supply the ONS with the reference & order online it will only cost you #7 (saving you a few #s) Pippa (also researching HAGAN in Liverpool) P.S. Did I send you the 1861 census for these HAGANs ----- Original Message ----- From:

21. what did it mean to be on a census record-staying the night [1]
Dear list, In a big city what did it mean to be on a census record? I have just found a family group in the 1871 census with quite a number of "extras" all with relationship stated eg sister in law. All unknown to me. Husbands not there so perhaps they lived a distance away and husbands needed to stay home for work. There is a new baby at the house so perhaps they had come to see the new baby. Surely you didn't get put on the census if you had just called in for the evening from the next suburb or street,

23. Re: 1851 census Index : West Derby [1]
Tony, you asked "Can anyone tell me whether the West Derby registration district is covered by the Liverpool 1851 census index ?" Until the end of 1851 (after which the registration districts changed somewhat) the Liverpool area was covered by just 2 main registration districts - Liverpool, and West Derby. So I would have thought that the 1851 Census index must cover some or all of both of these districts. Duncan, Dundee
24. Re: Naming Patterns [1]
I was interested to hear the naming pattern mentioned was Irish. Most Scotish families also followed it - mine certainly did. On researching my husbands family of Stuarts in the North or England I found to my dismay they too had followed this pattern, giving me 3 sons of George Stuart who all called their first born son George Stuart and to add to the confusion, all three grandsons of George were born the same year. The wonderfully thoughtful parish clerk was my saving grace - he entered the father's nam
