1. [ENG-MAN] Orvil street. [1]
While looking to locate Bonsall street I found Orvil street. Its west of Upper Moss lane by two streets and south of Stretford rod. The third street south of Stretford road is Hancock. Go from Moss lane west along Hancock and its the second street on the south. Meadow street is 10 minutes walk south off Upper Moss lane as you enter Moss Side it the next street to the east of Alexander road. I am sure I sent you the map of Upper Moss lane area. Cheers Mike Toronto Canada ----- Original Message ----

3. Re: [ENG-MAN] Night Mail [1]
Though I didn't see the news broadcast you refer to, the background would be without doubt "Night Mail" by W.H. Auden. Visit http://downlode.org/etext/nightmail.html for the words. John >Hi Listers, >In the news a few nights ago they were talking about the Royal Mail Train >ceasing and there was a poem or song in the background about the train. >Does anyone know this song or poem ? > >Alex & Jan >Sydney Aus

Hi Janette, I have had contact w/ Dorothy Bintley who passes by a Grundy Leather Furniture at 6 Shaw Road, Milnrow, Lancs. He does not make a connection w/ me; perhaps you are in his line... The address given to me was: Mr. Grundy (forgot to ask his forename) Grundy Leather Furniture 6 Shaw Road Milnrow ROCHDALE Lancashire OL16 4LT Phone number 01706 881017 He has no e-mail, so the postal system would have to be employed. Thank you, John. Do you happen to have an address for that office, and do you know how much money to send? Thanks very much for the information...you are right, this is too much of a coincidence not to be the right Phoebe. 7. [ENG-MAN] FINCH [1]
Hi Listers I'm trying to find out anything about my grandmother's family. She was Emma FINCH, b. 1 November 1875, daughter of Eliza (nee Mills) and Edward FINCH. He was a coppersmith. Emma has siblings, Margaret b. 1864, Ernest b. 1870, Mary b. 1872, Charles b. 1874 and Eliza b. 1878. The only address I have is 59 Bonsall Street, Stretford. I've checked LDS and FreeBMD, but as FINCH is a fairly common name, neither is very helpful. Does anybody have any connections with this family? Regards Pauline K i
8. Re: [ENG-MAN] finding a surname [1]
Hi, Christine......I found Phoebe Clasbrouck by looking for alternate spellings for Classbrook....but the only Classbrooks I found didn't seem to match in any way. I even queried a couple and found no connection...but that doesn't mean there is none. Curiouser and curiouser. 14. [ENG-MAN] RE: BDM of England [1]
Hello Listers, I need your advice. I am about to order some birth certifcates from the BDM of England and found different places to order. I am confused as to which one is the correct place to send for them. The one place said that 11.50 pounds does a full search and certifcate and 6.50 if you can provide the information to help them. I lost the site where I found that information, so I could check back. Any help would be greatly appreciated to find the proper place to send to. Shirley Somerville Ontario, C

17. [ENG-MAN] ASTLEY in Ancoats [1]
I'm newly (re)looking for my great grandmother Emma ASTLEY. I haven't looked at this branch for many years and I discovered that my recording habits were less than perfect (i.e. terrible) all those years ago. However this is what I know: I have the record of baptism for 3 illegitimate children of Mary ASTLEY. Elenor baptised 7 Sep 1851 Emma baptised 20 Mar 1853 Henrietta baptised 20 Sep 1857 All baptised at St James. (I think this must be the St. James on George Street and not St James the Less in Ancoats

20. Re: [ENG-MAN] Re: Wright photographer [1]
Hi Nancy, I don't think it would be possible to identify a subject by just knowing the name of a studio but the name of the studio can provide corroborating evidence. I asked for information about a studio because I have a photograph of a WW1 British soldier who according to an inscription on the picture was in a London regiment. Knowing that the photographer had a studio in Manchester increases the possibility that the subject is, as I believe, a member of my family. However, if the photographer had

23. Re: [ENG-MAN] 1871 DIRECTORY [1]
Shirley, checking Kelly's 1873 Manchester Directory, there is no Thomas Howarth, fustian cutter. There is a Robert HOWARTH fustian finisher at Gaythorn Mill, City Road, might be connected but as that is probably not a residence, not much use. There are two Williams, one a beer seller at 297 Broad Street Pendleton, the other a shopkeeper at 63 Dantzic Street. There is a John H. at 743 Hyde Road, Gorton a beer retailer. John There are no COLLINGE in Gorton, no Abraham any where and too many in Manches
