I will get in touch with the library and see what happens. Thanks for your advice. Although I have been trying to trace my family for a couple of years now I am still a novice regarding some of the research facilities. I know nothing about 'directories'. I have been concentrating on the on-line BDMs etc for England and Wales and LDS Films to research my Irish side to which I was guided by a lister on another site. I will now delve into the world of directories and see what I have been miss
Will somebody please assist.
For some time i have been trying to obtain my fathers service records
from the Merseyside Fire Service,i have written to them a couple of time
but they just refuse to answer my letters,i know they have more to deal
with than a request from the other side of the world, but i thought
through the freedom of information act it is my right to request this
information, please correct me if i am wrong.
Thanks in advance.

Hubby was born and raised there in Liverpool and we are going for a 2 week
trip there in September, and although he isn't fond of my genealogy he
knows that at least part of the time I will be working on it. I was hoping
to have more to look for in Liverpool. But, then I already have this
Barton puzzle along with the Harrisons in Liverpool. In Southport, I have
Blundells, Balls, etc and etc and in North Wales, I have two lines of
Jones...one in Denbighshire and one in Flintshire to look for so you
Hi Lists,
Today a wonderful breakthru finding my hubby's great-grandmother on a
passenger list.
Eleanor Thompson traveled from Cumberland to Liverpool to emigrate to USA.
Passage on the Steamship INDIANA, with her 3 children, arriving in
Philadelphia, PA., USA, on 16 Feb 1887.
I have copied the passenger list for our family & would dearly love to have
a photo of the ship, to go with it. I plan to frame these and mount on the
wall of our home.
Thanks in advance if someone can help, please.
Hi Margaret,
I am a member of Genes Reunited. I am not having any trouble accessing the
site. It sounds as if the trouble is with your computer.

Hi Everyone,
Many thanks for all the wonderful help with my quest. I have contacted
individuals privately, if anyone was missed, my apology.
This site has MANY ships, hope someone gets lucky, as I did.

In my ongoing search for the Bartons I had someone send me the 1851 and
1861 censuses. I am now more confused than ever. In 1851 James Barton is
already married to Elizabeth Unknown:
1851 census index:-
PRO piece no. HO 107/2187 Toxteth Park
BARTON James 34 Timber Yard Labourer, Essex, Weverimbre?
BARTON Elizabeth 36 Lancs. Liverpool
Along comes the 1861 and it really gets confusing:
1861 Liverpool, Lancashire, England census
James Barton 1817 Essex,

Is it a different Elizabeth? Perhaps his first wife died and he married
another Elizabeth - stranger things have happened! The Elizabeth on the 1861
census is 10 years younger than the Elizabeth on the 1851 census. Just a
suggestion!

Hi Lainee have you tried looking at the name with IrfanView it is quite good
at making things clearer. I think the email is www.irfanview.com
Good luck.

Hiya Jess,
Thanks for your response! I had thought of that, but trying to figure out
who yet another Elizabeth is overwhelming because I have been chasing the
Elizabeth in the 1861 and all later censuses for ages! If they are two
different Elizabeth's though, then the second one could have been married
to a Holley...but I can find nothing on the net about a Holley that married
an Elizabeth, nor can I find a James Barton married to an Elizabeth Holley. :(
Thanks again!

Hi everyone. Is anyone on the list using Genes Reunited in their research? I
am having a problem accessing them. They send me updates on new names and
also emails from contacts. neither of which i can open. I keep getting an
aggravating message telling me there has been an illegal operation performed
and the programme will be shut down which it immediately does. Freezing my
computer. Is anyone else having this problem? It is not possible for me to
contact them through their website although i have tried sev

Strange how the power of suggestion works. When I saw the same entry
yesterday I could have sworn it was Holley because that is how it was sent
to me about a year ago and how I have been looking for it. Now, Jess,
comes along and says it looks like something entirely different and I go
back and look at the copy I have and sure enough...it doesn't look like
Holley any more. LOL

Try e-mailing Liverpool Record office
_recoffice.central.library@liverpool.gov.uk_
(mailto:recoffice.central.library@liverpool.gov.uk) they may just look that up for you, if not too busy.
They will do a fifteen minute search for free (or they used to) but if the
search takes longer they prefer people to use their research service. Everyone who
e-mails goes into a queuing system and are answered on a first come first
served basis
I did have a quick look in my Kelly's 1949 directory
Hi Margaret
I have no problem accessing Genes Reunited. The problem is more likely to
be with your computer and not the site. I have had that problem where the
computer closes down after receiving the 'illegal operation' message. Have
you tried getting onto the site via a search engine and log on from there?
Good Luck from another Margaret in Australia! (ex scouser)

Tee hee. Back to the drawing board...
Is it an option to send off for James's (1858) or John's (1860)'s birth
cert, which would give the mother's maiden name and, if she was married before,
the surname of Elizabeth ??, James's stepdaughter.
Jess
