2. Re: [NYorks] Eleanor HUGILL in Hutton Rudby [1]
As a matter of (possible) interest, a Mary HUGILL or HAGILL was one of the witnesses at the marriage of two of my ancestors, Thomas WILKINSON and Mary HALL, at Stokesley parish church on 14th May 1840. The other witness was a Robert PEARSON. There's probably no connection, but you never know ... 3. Re: [NYorks] Cemetery in Normanby, Middlesbrough [1]
The cemetery is called Eston cemetery. About 10 years ago I went to Cargo Fleet offices and a Mr. Ridley was the keeper of the records. He was very cooperative and knowledgeable. I have a copy of parts of the cemetery that I was interested in viewing. I could Email to you. Also, I knew a Peter Bean and Ian Bean in Normanby and as far as I remember, not related. Hope this information is helpful. Cheers, Richard White Adamsville Tennessee, USA ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kevin Bean"
4. [NYorks] Harrison/BOSSALL Foumarts [1]
I beg to differ on this. The full entry on the GENUKI site is:- "The forest abounded in wild animals such as deer, wolves, boars and wild cats, known locally as foumarts, and was naturally the happy hunting-ground of the Anglo-Saxon kings. The polecat or foumart continued until quite recent years, and there is no more common entry in the books of the Bossall Churchwardens than such as this :-" Easter 1833, paid to Benjn. Harrison, Keeper, for six foumarts, 2s. 0d." " The way this reads implies to me that

6. [NYorks] 1871 census [1]
Hi all I'm new to this list, although I'm on the Birmingham one. I've got a problem great grandfather (as have many of you I'm sure) and I wondered if anyone had access to the census of 1871 for the Wilton area. My great grandfather was Charles Bell and his father's name was Henry (hence the difficulty with finding him). I have a likely family who were in Middlesbrough from 1881, with his mother's name was Sarah. In this family, Charles was born in 1871 and the place of birth was given as Winton Cliffe.

Kevin, The indexes and cemetery records are held, on microfilm, at Teesside Archives. You can e-mail them at the following address:teessidearchives@middlesbrough.gov.uk I've not dealt with them by e-mail because it's my local archive and I can easily call in personally. But I've always found them very helpful and friendly. regards, Peter Appleton Researching the following surnames: Yorkshire (North Riding): APPLETON, BOWERS, COCKERILL, EVANS, FAWCETT, LEGG(E) Norfolk: BOWERS, CARVER, MULLENGER, WOODS W

12. [NYorks] HUGILL [1]
Sorry to be returning to HUGILLS again. A month ago, I read a message from Andrew to Peter, mentioning a Miriam Hugill whose parents he believed to be John HUGILL and Ann BELT. The names rang a bell at the time but I have only just spotted the names amongst my notes. I had noted that the marriage of John and Ann took place in Hutton Rudby on 3.6.1761, and thought they may be possible relatives of 'my' James HUGILL, born in Hutton Rudby in1821. You haven't found an Eleanor or Mary amongst their children, by

14. [NYorks] NEESAM - Brompton by Northallerton & Osmotherley [1]
Yesterday I decided to do a bit of digging into a forgotten (by me) area of my family history. Using the IGI, just to explore initially, and backed up by some censuses, I found the following - hope the format comes out OK. Before I do any more serious searching, I wonder if there is anyone else out there interested in this name - also spelled NEESON, NEESHAM; and particularly in this family?? Best regards Andy Kerridge Leicester, UK 1. Robert NEESAM = Mary .... Following children found at Brompton b
15. Re: [NYorks] 1851 census lookup request [1]
Hello Renee Yorkshire is the largest county in England and is served by at least 17 family history societies, each of which have indexed most, if not all, of their own areas. Whitwell on the Hill is covered by the City of York & District Family History Society, and the 1851 census is indexed for this area. I have searched this index and found no HOLMES listed in Whitwell, nor are there any names and ages which correspond with those on your list. York FHS now has the 1851 for the area covered by the Soci

17. [NYorks] Elizabeth Jane Willingham [1]
Elizabeth Jane Willingham born January 27, 1830 Yorkshire, England, and think she lived close to Easington, Durham, England. She married John Ferry from Easington. In American she went by the name of Jane. They came to the U. S. in 1842 and by 1846 they started their family in Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania. I am looking for her family and parents names and just exactly where in Yorkshire she came from. Thinking it is near Easington, since she and John married. Also, looking for the route and the ship th

Hi, Will someone please be kind enough to explain to me about LDS films. I have seen the numbers quoted on many of my IGI names but do not know the advantage of checking them or how to go about it. I have cross-posted this to a few Yorkshire sites, please ignore if you've seen it already. This is just to inform everyone that I have changed the web address of the list of people in the Harrogate and District WWI photograph booklet. I have also completed the task of scanning all the photographs, so if anyone requires a copy of a photograph with accompanying text, I can forward it immediately. For those of you unaware of this booklet, I believe it was printed in 1917 and refers to servicemen and women

Hi Ailsa, It looks as though the National Archivist website will shortly be launching a facility to access (at a small cost) some of the index information via the internet (I think there is a gap in the middle from 1862-1874 though). Shame about the gap as I know some of my ancestors would have emigrated to the US in the late 1860's and returned about 1873! http://www.nationalarchivist.com/ Below is the information from their website: "Registers of Names of Passport Applications 1851 to 1903 Could your
