We have a connection with the Greenwood name as a sideline to the Haynes
family in the early 1800s.

Anyone know where the Robin Hood Inn was, Bath St. This is from a birth in 1838. They lived in the Robin Hood Inn Yard. I can't imagine it's the one at Millhouses, though the birth was the Ecc. Bierlow district.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Jack.
Hi I recently found out that my relation died in 1887 in the work house at Sheffield it was near Brightside, I just wondered if there would be any kind of record of him whilst in there? Kind regards Caroline

Hi List,
This is my first posting to this list.
I am looking for my g.g.grandmother Mary Ann ROSS, married Charles WARBURTON 13th Sept. 1863 in Salford, Lancaster. They are both listed as aged 20.
But I find from other census that she may have been a bit younger or maybe Charles was older, I have not been able to accurately find her birth.
In 1871 census she is down as Mary ROSS age 27, born Rotherham "Lancashire" (so I do not know if the enumerator had not known where the area off Rotherham was, I
I hope that someone out there can help me...I would like to order some
certificates from the Sheffield Register Office because they are not in the
GRO index (one of the few percent that didn't make it?) but I need to get an
international money order since the SRO doesn't accept credit card payments.
If there is anyone in Sheffield who is trying to order a certificate from
the GRO, I will pay for yours via credit card if you can pay for mine in
Sheffield.
Is that a deal or what, LOL...
Thanks.
Jane

Hello Colin
I am researching the Furniss family for my sister-in-law.
I don't have an exact date of birth but here is his death entry:
Furniss, Henry (Cabinet case Maker, age 56).
Died at 74 Wellington Street; Buried on June 30, 1883 in Consecrated
ground;
Grave Number 8063, Section U of City Road Cemetery, Sheffield.
Which makes his birth year about 1827.
His father was George Furniss, born between 1790 and 1795 in Ecclesall
Bierlow. George was married to Donah - born between 1785-1790, who

Hi Lindsey,
I see you listed both BARRACLOUGH and ROBINSON under the heading

What a coincidence - I am also interested in both of those family names

Hi everyone,
I certainly appreciate your kindness in posting the YKS Surnames List updates, but with the new rootsweb mailing system, every time I send you a message, I get a return message stating that my message is awaiting List Administrator Review.
No doubt this is as much of a bore and a chore for you as it is for me. Besides, it clogs up our inboxes. Could you possibly do something to indicate that messages from magdalena@blunham.com are automatically accepted. The message that I sometimes get is

When "replying" to a message in a digest, it would be polite not to quote
the entire digest, and to change the header to something other than:
" ENG-SHEFFIELD Digest, Vol 1, Issue 13 "
Most of us have email programs set to auto-title our replies, and to quote
the message to which we reply, but reading your reply before pressing the

I have checked Ecclesfield church on disc and the marriage was not performed there.
The Ecclesfield that you found on freebmd would be the registration district, but the marriage could have taken place at any church in this registration district.
Not sure which they are but maybe someone else knows.

Thanks for the link

Hi Gisela, My husbands maternal ancestors were Warburtons in Sheffield,
Yorkshire. There has to be a connection as on one of the census returns a
branch of the Warburton family is shown as having an adopted son with the
last name Dentith born Salford, Lancashire.
Unfortunately I cannot lay my hands on the details of which year the census
was taken. One of the subscribers on this list sent me the details some time
ago, I printed the page and now I cannot find it in the mounds of paper that
I have.

I have the floppy discs for both Christ Church, Attercliffe and Attercliffe Municipal Cemetery but the index of names seems to be pretty much the same on each, for instance, my Simpson's and Johnson's appear on both discs. Do the discs cover the same burial ground ?

Thanks to the lead from Hugh I have concluded that the Census collector must
have had one or two when completing his 1901 form.
He got the right road, Page Hall Road, but the number was 127 not 121 and
the Pub is called the Firth Park Hotel not Page Hall Hotel.
Samuel was the License Victualler not Wine and spirits merchant.
Thanks again Peter
