2. Re: [Pots] TUNNICLIFFE UPDATE [1]
Hi John, I live half a mile away from Longton. Part of Heathcote road is now no more, only a few shops and a pottery factory. A new Tesco has just been completed, and the roads surrounding it has changed. My relatives lodged at 21 Heathcote Rd in 1871(census info), but this appears to be earlier than you want. Try a brilliant local website for local info and local maps. www.netcentral.co.uk/steveb/ and www.thepotteries.org/index.htm Good luck! Jean If you need to contact me, please do so direct as I am

4. Re: [Pots] Emigrating Olivers [ was Mellor ] [1]
Andy, If you are referring to Hannah Mellor, this may be a relation of mine. I can tell you that Enoch Mellor and Frederick G. Mellor came to Trenton and started the Cook Pottery. If memory serves me correctly (which it isn't what it used to be) Frederick G. Mellor was associated with Mellor and Venables pottery. Story goes that Frederick G. Mellor recruited potters from Stoke on Trent to work for him in the States. Some actually believed that Trenton was named after the English town, but it was not.

Hi Sue, I was bought up in the next village to Goldenhill,my parents are still there.Goldenhill is about 3 or 4 miles from Hanley and was in the registration district of Wolstanton. There was an orphanage at Penkhull, near to Newcastle-under-Lyme and I think that there was one in Newchapel. 7. Re: [Pots] Missing Folios from Beavington CD's [1]
Hi Jackie, I would actually like to be able to read any of the folios. I managed after great difficulty to open the Shropshire disc which contained Ashley from Staffs, but I just got file invalid from the Staffs list. Again Gordon has offered a refund but as with other listers I don't really want that , just to be able to open them up. I have tried in 'My Computer' and in Explorer and in Imageing and in Coral Photohouse all to no avail. I will have to try again but I think that I have tried all possibil

9. [Pots] LANDOR in Rugely [1]
I would be most grateful if a list member could help me trace a family named LANDOR, who lived in 'The Riddings', Rugely, in the 1930s, and possibly the 1940s. I recently 'discovered' a 1st cousin (twice removed), named Alan Wilson DUNCAN (b.1892), who served in the 2/8th Gurkha Rifles in India, and retired to England after the 2nd World War. In his military records, which I've seen at the British Library, he listed as his next of kin his uncle, 'R.H. LANDOR, The Riddings, Rugely' ( I don't know if 'The Ri

I too received a rather curt reply from him, I bought the census only to find that two weeks after there was a more comprehensive set, i asked what it would cost to purchace the missings discs, I was not given the opportunity to do so, just the price of the new complete set. I'm not to sure that i wou;ld use his service again. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jackie Russell" To: Sent: Monday, June 02, 2003 3:23 PM Subject: [Pots]

Tom, I asked at Hanley Archives about Lydia Weaver, but you need to know which area to search, as she could have married in any number of churches. Regards Jean. Sorry! 16. [Pots] Bingo I've found them2 [1]
Sorry, I pressed send too earlier, but I was so excited! After I sent the other message I suddenly thought about looking in another piece for my errant Folios and found them in Piece 2009 Cheadle, which was even on a different CD. The Registration district clearly says Leek and the HO ref down the side says 2008, so it was just that Gordon has put them in with the wrong lot. My original question to him was if he could just let me know if they were lurking somewhere else, which they were, but if he had jus

Just wondering if anyone can look up a marraige and death for the following: Frederick Davenport and Mary Ellen Hancock in area of Hanley/Goldenhill , marraige approx between 1881 - 1901. Both died around 1904 - 1910 in Hanley area. Frederick was a potter. Both were born around 1860. Trying to track their grave/ death records etc. Any he;p on this on would be great. with wolstanton covering marriages from newcastle and stoke on trent districts you could send it to newcastle if they came from that end or hanley if they came from tunstall etc. areas. If the one you send it to does not hold it they will forward the request to the other office. 20. [Pots] TUNNICLIFFE UPDATE [1]
Hi Michelle, Thanks for your reply. I have managed to find some more details. Arthur TUNNICLIFF b 25 April 1857 married Harriet SPALTON b.1858 in St.John's Church, Derby 15 June 1881. They had 5 children, Reginald b abt 1882, Arthur b abt. 1884, Ernest b. abt 1886, Sissy 16 June 1888 and Constance May 13 May 1894. They eventually owned two shops 24-26 Heathcote road, Longton (grocers?) and had a servant and horse and carriage. Would like to try and find more about the shop, (is it still there, photo

Carol - I believe the Directories ceased during the War - the one in Hanley Archive are for 1939 and then 1945 . Why not ask the archive if they would just have a quick peek nfor you - Chris and his collegues are very good . you will find their email address on the following web page http://www.staffordshire.gov.uk/live/welcome.asp?id=201 Steve On 05 June 2003 05:02, CarolB [SMTP:carolbr@xtra.co.nz] wrote: > Hi > > I just joined for a request for some help from SKS.My g grandfather Philip > BRAITHWAIT

Hi there, I doubt the address you are looking for is Horde Cane, could it be North Lane, or Norton Lane, which could be much more likely? Have another look at the address Kacky. This would also fit in with the fathers' jobs. Also try www.netcentral.co.uk. as there are some old maps of the Potteries there, and you may find the streets? you are looking for.
