Hi,
Thanks so much Dean for setting up this mailing list.
I am interested in the LONSDALE family.
I have a Thomas LONSDALE, born abt 1738 (maybe Hutton Roof?), he married
a
Sarah BORRANSKILL in 1767 at St Pauls Covent Garden. Thomas LONSDALE
was a Churchwarden at St Pauls for several years. His occupation was
gold lace man. When Thomas died in 1803, he left a property at Hutton
Roof to his son, John James LONSDALE. Thomas LONSDALE also had a sister
Eleanor LONSDALE. She would have been born abt 1739
Hello List
Just to draw your attention to the Westmorland GENUKI WWW site. This
contains contact details and links which should be useful to genealogists
with an interest in the county:
http://www.awitc.demon.co.uk/genuki/WES/
At the moment it is much stronger for parishes in the North of the county.
[But this will change]

I'm researching the family of Christopher Alderson and Mary Veach who
married in 1823 in Appleby, WES.
They had 10 children, all born in Appleby, St. Michael between 1824 and
1845.
Christopher's parents were Christopher Alderson and Ann Atkinson, also
married in Appleby in 1788.
Would like to hear from anyone researching the Alderson or Veach name in
this area of WES.

Hello List Members,
First I would like to thank the List Owner for starting this list. I
hope we will all be able to help each other find some new branches or
twigs on our family tree.

Hello! Does anyone out there share an interest in the HARRISONs of Kirkby
Lonsdale?
I have a William Harrison (poss. son of Wm. Harrison & Mary Ward, bap
1739/40), ordained and appointed assistant curate of Dalston in 1765. After
marriage he moved to be curate of Hartlepool in 1770, but his son William
was buried at Kirkby Lonsdale in 1772, and he married again to Elizabeth
Corker in 1773. I'm not sure where or when Wm. the Curate died - he
disappeared from Hartlepool in 1797, but wasn't buried there.

Hi Peter,
When I visited Hawkshead Grammar School a few years ago, hoping to find
information about my 3X Gt Grandfather James Dixon, the curator was very
helpful. He had a list of scholars who had carved their names into the
desks and on school property (the poet Wordsworth was one!) with the
locations of the carving. I was actually shown the carved names in the
windowsill of my James and his brother and was able to photograph these
carvings.
The school also has a number of documents on site going ba
Hello,
I am a new subscriber to the Westmorland list, and my research
interest is the name BOND, in particular a James Bond who was
born in Kendal circa 1779.
Does anyone know if there is an index list of students/scholars
who attended the Hawkeshead Grammar School.
Further, what other Schools existed around Kendal pre-1800 ?
Kind regards

Hi Robyn and all!
Greetings from the other Victoria, BC, Canada
Just north and east of Kendal, about 3 miles, was the village of
Skalthwaiterigg. Would that be the place you're looking for? It is in the
CofE parish of Kendal, and there are numerous chapelries, or overflow
congregations in the parish. The "Parish Church" would be located in Kendal,
and because of the short distance, the family would probably have been
baptized, married and/or buried from that church.
If your relative was still in England in

I just thought that I would keep members of the list up to date with the
number of current subscribers.
Amazingly, since last night 24 people have subscribed in mail mode and 6 in
digest mode.
So there are people out there!
When sending messages to the list please make sure that you use" plain text"
instead of HTML on your E. mail program or the Rootsweb servers will throw

Hi!
I'm searching the family of John Ibbotson and Dorothy Atkinson who
married in 1829 in Orton, WES.
They had sons Robert b.1830 and John b.1833., both in Asby.
John (the father) died and Dorothy married William Lambert. She had two
more children with William. Their names were William b.1836 in Brough
under Stainmore and Dorothy b.1841 in Great Musgrave.
Robert emigrated to Canada with wife Margaret Alderson in 1856.
Would love to find others researching these families.
