Finally found a birth for him and matched it to census records. He shows
up in the 1861 census at 9 years of age living with his mother and
grandparents. They all have the same surname and it lists the
grandparents as the mothers parents, so unless that is incorrect, it's
the only explanation I can think of. Another possibility is that the
grandparents are actually in-laws and her husband has died or done a
bunk, but I will need to check on that.

Hello,
I dont know what it is the enquirer is looking for in the archives and I have kept out of this thread as it is not one of my families but I have just looked on the 1891 census for HIRCOCK and variations there are 47 HERCOCK`s in Cambridgeshire, all in either Wisbech or Whittlesea.

Hi All.

A while ago a researcher in Norfolk found our lost Sarah Ann Horn or Horne who was born in norfolk to Thomas and Mary Horn -Horne.
She was married to
John Brookshaw of Wisbech Cambridge in 1858.
she comes up in 1861 census living at North St Walsoken
1871 her husband John living there but no Sarah, we thought she must have died but cant find her anywhere or we have looked for a second marriage but to no avail.
If anyone out there could help or ideas

Thanks for all that info Alan. Yes, I believe there is a relationship to
Cliff Beall's Hircocks, it's just working it out that's the hard part.
At this point, it appears that Henry was illegitimate, so I guess that
explains in part why it has been a bit difficult. Will just have to bite
the bullet and order the certificate and hope that it has some
information on it. Haven't ordered any certificates from UK yet, so was
being a bit of a sook about the whole thing and trying to avoid it. Will

Hi Megan:
Have you gone into the ENG-CAMBRIDGESHIRE mailing list archives or are you
just putting the name in the Surname search box at the top of the
rootsweb.com home page? You need to get into the archives first and then put
in HIRCOCK, not my name.

Hello folks,
Whilst out for a drive today I came across a sight which I have not seen for
years. Whittlesey Wash has been allowed to flood - as it often is during wet
times. However on this occasion the flood waters cover a much larger area as
opposed to an odd field, so much that I think the Thorney to Whittlesey Road
was only reopened today. There are still signs up in Thorney saying that it
is closed. As I had my camera with me I took some photos which because the
event is so infrequent, I have decid

I'm looking for a William MARKILLIE / MARKELEY / MARKILIE / MARKLEY son of Jacob MARKELEY / MARKILLIE and Lydia WESTWOOD of Littleport, Cambridgeshire who was baptized at one month old in the Ely Westlyan Methodist Church 4 April 1810 although he seems to have been
Hi Christine,
I tried that but nothing is showing up for me. But thanks so much for
the other info - it is probably the break I need at least in respect to
where Henry fits into the family. Will have to check my other info, but
this makes a lot of sense.
Thanks again, Megan
My now adult daughter had a Sarah Horne in her class but I doubt it is the
same one VBG.
Cheshire BMD is very well advanced, lots of BMDs right up to 1951 on there,
and it is free - not sure if it is part of Free BMD or if it is comes under
Cheshire Family History Society - I would google the latter in the first
instance
It is a nice place, we have been here 20 years now. Hubbie has been to NZ,
was in the Navy years ago and went then, I have only been as far as France,
dont do airplanes
Good luck

thanks for that. Carol posted a list of Hircock's on the mailing list
some years ago and I can't find it!!! My Henry left England in 1885. He

How nice of you, John Bland, to let us see what it looks like now and what
it looked like then when the drainers were trying to do all those projects
to stop the flooding.
I'm sending your URL to several relatives so they can have a look.
