Dear Susan McCarthy,
There is an article in The COUNTRYMAN magazine for January 2001 titled " When Fenlands' finest raced with Jack Frost " by Roger Deakin which you might find interesting.
Howard Pate, Greenwich, NY. USA.
Apprently AOL have now created a work around to the problem.... Wouldn't you
just know it...

I'm looking for confirmation of two christenings in Abbottsley Hunts, does
anyone happen to have parish records from there? Unfortunately they are not
in my historical society's library.
Robert Endersby was born around 1759 and his future wife Elizabeth Law circa
1763. If anyone could tell me who their parents I would be most grateful.
Thanks again

Some of the questions are very personal (e.g. education, or lack of it),
All people have to be counted, but for one reason or another some do not
wish their existence to be checked during their lifetime (e.g women hiding
from ex husbands/partners who have threatened to harm or kill them and their
children, - and yes, there ARE a lot of those

I have rejoined since the failure of my hard disk. If anyone has been trying

Right now though I would like to clarify 2 names on a baptism index if they

Dear Mary,
It's not so much the information asked for, which as I said, is available to
the Powers That Be from their own Government depts, etc; but more the
fact that the census is locked away for 100 years - 60-70 years would make
more sense; the French release theirs after 30!
But I do accept that there are those who's information must be protected
at all costs.
But after all, it is only the names, addresses, ages, place of birth and
occupation that we are interested in, not if they drove to work in a c
I have been asked by a friend to find out if getting married on the island

certificate via the PRO - Consular Returns Register?
And if so, how does she go about getting a copy?
Grateful for any advice offered,

This child was not expected to live at birth - so the first baptism -
the Pb - private baptism, which may have been done in a hurry by the
midwife, or the vicar or anyone who happened to be standing around -
quite legal by the way.
When showing signs of surviving the child is then taken to church and -
received into the church.
Which is the true meaning of baptism - being received into the
community.
Though in this case she was either very ill for a long time, they didn't
go to church for ages, or they f

Hello All:
In the 1999 Thames & Hudson book, THE MOST BEATIFUL VILLAGES OF ENGLAND by
James BENTLEY, photos by Hugh PALMER, there is a photo of
a tombstone:
"In Memory of Frances Elizabeth elder daughter of William and Elizabeth Maria
DESBOROUGH born 12 Dec 1803 Died at Hemingford Grey [CAM] 7 Nov. 1820
Beloved and respected by all who knew her"
the vault sits upon another -
"Charles DESBOROUGH the younger son [ornamental fence obstructs MI]

It caught my eye because

Most villages had several alehouses, beerhouses etc as well as standard
public houses and inns. The front room of an ordinary house would be used
for the sale of beer, sometimes homebrewed, sometimes supplied by a local
brewer. There were 18 beerhouses, pubs and inns in my Suffolk village
during 1800's. There is now only one pub and one hotel/restaurant now.

Hi
Just wish to thank you all re my query on burials, now I have a clearer idea. The info I got originally from France, Mentone area had me wondering. My Aunt was buried there and out of the grave after 8 years! My rellies in England in one case shared a grave with another some 16 years later, which was strange. Some of you in England and France have told me that your rellies were never disturbed and others from England, France and Germany have spoken of graves re-rented after a period of
time. I don't kn
Hello Perle. The British Vital Records Index has a Frederic Allen bapt. 7th
July 1839 at Fen Stanton, Huntingdonshire, the son of Thomas Allen & Sarah.
No telling how old he was at baptism. Fen Stanton (now Fenstanton) is 10
miles NW of Cambridge. No trace on that Index of a Mark Allen. For what it
is worth. Yours. Joe

This is better known as Mill Road cemetery.
Cambs FHS is currently recording it - its huge and has been going on for
a while, but we do hope to complete it this year. It is arranged by
parish and we are doing them one at a time.
Which is the ideal moment to say -
Work is going on on Wednesday afternoons at 2pm all through the summer.
There is a team working them, which is a nice social occasion. The
surroundings are lovely and the job worthwhile and not exacting.

Hi Mary,
Barbara sent you some details of a Cyrus Cornwell age 2 from the 1851
census. If that is your Cyrus then it would appear that his parents were
Benjamin & Mary Cornwell. It would appear that is they had a large
number of children both from the census and the Isleham Parish register.
However, their last few children including Cyrus do not appear to have
been baptized in the parish church and so they might have changed
churches.
I did find a marriage in the St. Andrews Parish register dated 14 Oct
