Hello All
I am researching my wife's BANCROFT ancestors, who left the Barnwell area of
Cambridge to live in Swansea sometime before 1870. WILLIAM BANCROFT and his
son, William, were both Cordwainers and also played cricket in Swansea. They
were associated with the founding of Glamorgan CCC.
Can anyone help me to find out whether they played in Cambridge please?

Just to put the record straight about the late Mr TPR Layng - he was the
Latin master at Cambridgeshire High School for Boys and taught many
generations of schoolboys there - including my husband. In retirement he
transcribed and indexed many sets of Cambridgeshire parish registers which
are now available as bound books on the shelves of Cambridge Record Office
and at the Library of the Society of Genealogists. He also compiled
marriage indexes for both old Cambs and Huntingdonshire, filling in the gaps

Cholera, the highly infectious and often fatal intestinal disease, appeared
during the 19th century; the first outbreak occured 1831-33. It was
introduced into the northeast ports from Russia; first appearing in
Sunderland. Further outbreaks occurred in 1848-49, 1854 and 1866. On each
of these occasions the disease spread with alarming rapidity, largely
because of the lack of sanitation in the new industrial towns. The
outbreaks provided a spur to public health legislation, which in turn led

Hi list,
Robert BROWN, born in 1818, lived in Fordham Cambridgeshire before he
was transported to Van Diemen's Land (Australia) in 1842.
According to convict records his mother was Susan and he had five

Is anyone researching this surname in the vicinity of Fordham?

title ever since because the Church of England considers itself part of the
Catholic Church.

Hi Listers
JOHN STEVENS married SARAH ASPLIN in October 1797 at Fenstanton.
They had four children that we know of, HENRY, JOHN, MARTHA and WILLIAM.
They were the only Stevens family in the village.
MARTHA married FREDERIC SEE, who was a bootmaker, and had been born in
Anhelm. They married at St Mary & St. Benedict, Huntington on January 5,
1830, with witnesses GEORGE and ELIZABETH SEE.
Frederic and Martha had three children, FREDERICK, 1835, MARTHA, 1837 (my
great-grandmother) and CHARLES, 1840. Whe

Does anyone know if there is a Cambridgeshire Marriage Index available
anywhere for the years 1775-1800 apart from Boyds'?
I am searching for the marriage of my ancestor Henry Parson to Mary.
They were both buried in Ely and had a son, also Henry, in 1799 in Ely.
I am therefore guessing that they married nearby just before 1799.
Thanks in advance,
Hugh Parson
