Hello and a Happy New Year To Everyone!
I would like to alert you to an unpleasant virus which McAffee and Norton do not seem able to detect. I found this on my C-drive. I received notice of this just now. If it is not removed, I am told it will shut down the hard drive after 14 days. Here are the instructions for removing it from your computer.
1. Go to Start. Then Find. Search for the file in drive C.
2. Type sulfnbk.exe This is the virus file. Hit the search button.
3. If you h

Greeting from sunny Florida -
I have just received my 1891 census discs and have not loaded them yet - I've
been reading the chatter with regards to the problems some members have been
having -having waited so long for them please don't tell me they are all
mucked up. Are the discs you speak of new ones as I did read the S&N Company
were having problems and were fixing them. I am hoping my discs are 'problem
free' or am I dreaming?

Jan Hart of EoLFHS has posted your enquiry. I am a founding member of that

My great-grandfather, Donald Munro, was Chairman of the Whitechapel Baths &

history, listing as they do wages, salaries, capital expenditure and prices
of admission.
However, it may be that you already have acquired this information. If not,

1. Do we have a Victorian handwriting expert? Would anyone like to give an
opinion on the writing? (I can send a scan by e-mail)
Hi Graham and List members
I am not an expert on old handwriting but will give it a go - I like
puzzles!
I am also old enough to have been taught to write in the old-style so have
an advantage over some of you. Our school didn't hold with the new-fangled
writing without loops and so in the early-50s I was taught to write with all
the proper loops and curly bits and funny Zs, P
Hi Phil:
I don't have too much use for the street index but I do have a question for

Dear All
I have had information sent to me explaining that this virus is a hoax which
originated in Portugal. Sorry to have alarmed you and do not carry out the

I would just like to reiterate that any virus 'warnings' should be sent to me
and NOT to the list. Although Lyn was acting with the best intentions anyone
carrying out the instructions which she posted will only have succeeded in

Phil,
You ask if one ever, in family history research, wants to locate a street, rather than a name. I have wanted to do this where an
address appears in a birth certificate etc for a date near to a census date. It is particularly useful when the street name no
longer exists, when the street has been 'broken up' in the census or where the census enumerator covered the street out of the
'obvious' order. Not uncommonly, the surname has been wrongly transcribed in the census name index but the family can b

Hello Listers
As we all know there are several viruses doing the rounds at the moment. If
you should happen to receive an infected message from another member of this
list please inform me, the List Administrator. I will take the necessary
steps to inform the list member that they are infected and, if necessary,
unsubscribe them from the list whilst they get themselves sorted out.
Please DO NOT post messages regarding viruses to the list as a whole and,
above all, do not open any attachments that you
Derek,
Many thanks for your very helpful reply. It is good to know why a street
index could be helpful, and what information one might want it to contain.
I feel that if I'm going to spend the time listing the streets and places
contained in the census, I'd like to make it as useful as possible.
It occurs to me that I could make it available in two forms - alphabetically
by street, with folio numbers (and possibly house number ranges), and
sequentially by folio number. The former would allow all referen

Hello Listers,
Is there SKS who could tell me just what and where "Armst(r)ong Rents"
were in 1833 in Shoreditch, St Leonard's. This address appears in the
Baptism Register for St Leonard's on the 21 January 1833 in the entry
for a relative of mine. I haven't been able to find the address on the
Alan Godfrey map.

The trial took place in February 1891 and it occurred to me that being so
