Hello Geoffrey, And anyone else looking for obits of well known - and often not so well known people. The Times Newspaper, fully indexed at the LMA is the place to go. 2. Re: 1861 Essex Census CD [1]
Hi Colleen et al, The Essex CDs are #34.95, and just checking on my order form I've just realized I've not ordered the 1871, now why did I forget that one? My mind must be going, so thank you for making me check up on that Colleen. 3. thankyou all [1]
Dear Listers, I would like to thank all of you who were so quick to offer their help - special thanks to Mike Stone, Bev Pease, Adrian Gray, Graham Day, Patricia Salter, John Mead and a great big hug for Colin Walker and Carol Wellington for their 1841 census lookups - Carol and I have the same family. Gee, I am glad I listened to you all and did not leave the list - not just for my find, but I was smiling each time I received an email at the kindness of you all. It feels so good that people are willing to

5. Re: Stock, Essex [1]
Hello, Civil Registration of births, marriages and deaths didn't begin until July 1837. Before that, (and after, too, but that's not the point here), christenings, marriages and burials, were recorded in parish registers of the parish church in which the events took place. If she was christened, and if you know she was born in Stock, the christening is most likely to have taken place there too. Maybe someone has access to the appropriate perished registers for Stock, and would be willing to do a look up
6. Re: GOWER [1]
You can find the 1881 census online at www.familysearch.org and can search it at your leisure. If you want look ups in the 1891 it is necessary to tell us where these people lived and a few more details. The 1891 is not searchable by index unless you subscribe to www.ancestry.co.uk. 10. Re: Sad news and unsubbing - not [1]
Well said, Diane. What is the harm of brief onlist obits for Colchester soldiers? However, Bert's main objection is based on the inaccurate misconception that Essex list is solely and exclusively about Genealogy, whereas the list remit says it is also for discussion of local history relating to Essex. Aren't these deaths history in the making? Imagine if there'd been an Internet and Essex list during WW1 & WW2, what wouldn't we give now to see the obits and response of our people at that time to the tumult

20. Re: GOODHEW 1891 census [1]
Dear James, You can't do an address search in the 1891 like you can in 1901. I found a Goodhew family living in West Ham with a lot of kids born in Woolwich, but not the names you mention. I couldn't find a likely Charlotte in the index. If you send more details of the people you do have, I might be able to help. The Essex CD has ben reduced once, and more orders could get it reduced again. Regards Barry So come on everybody, start ordering and get the price reduced. :-) Patti
