Hi there everyone,
I have available the MI'S for Lae War Cemetery in
Papua New Guinea. 1939-1945. There are 2804 graves of men who lost their
lives, most of these are Australian, with a few British and some Papua New
Guinean. I hope to have the listings for Rabaul and Port Moresby in the
next month or so. I have set out an example below to give some idea of what
is contained in the MI'S:
HORNE, Sgt.Charles Edwin, WX. 32774. A.I.F
attached to 2/7 Commando Squadron,
Australian Army

I recently posted some web sites where one can find information about
unusual occupations. Now I've been caught out myself. One of my ancestors
appears on a birth certificate as a "drilling man". If this were in a
mining district, it would make sense, but in rural Essex (in Wix
specifically) what could it mean?

There being many new subscribers, I would like to re-list my surname

The last time I asked about "drilling man" on a register there was a
considerable discussion. Here's another one: "Preventive Service Man"
appears on an ancestor's certificate Essex 1830. Any ideas?

Hi,
Sorry but the name that I have is "Romford Cemetery, Romford, Essex,
England" in respect of my family.
Is there more than one cemetery in Romford I assume so?
Also the School that you are after could it be the Liberty School (went
there in 1970 as a Summer Frech School).

your tree, I'd love to hear from you. Sophie Pocock, 1867-1939,
Walthamstow, was my father's grandmother. E. Pat Argue -

I found a new surname in my family! SAWYER (Henry & Samuel). Does anybody
have any information on :
Henry Sawyer who married Elizabeth Googe in Bradfield Essex in 1792 (could
be a Suffolk connection?) and

also be a Suffolk connection?).
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

there is a new site, no more than a month old, probably less, that is a
'net-wide, world-wide query site. it works by surname. go to the surname
list, choose your 1st letter of a surname, wait for the surnames that start
with that letter to come up, alpha browse to where your surname should be,
if you find it, click on it. if you don't find it, go to the bottom of the
page and click on Forum Finder and search for variant spellings. if you
still don't find it, go to New Surname Listing and ask them to add it

Hi Shirley (again)
Gas works are actually part of British Gas (the major UK gas company that,
until recently was a monopoly). It is now privatised but represented the
nationalised gas industry where the private companies were compulsarlily
merged after the second world war.
