Patty,
You will find that Radwinter will be Saffron Walden registraion district.
I too have ancestors from Radwinter, Wimbish and Littlebury, all villages
close to Saffron Walden.
However IGI details will depend on the contributor or source. If the entry
had details for Radwinter should find them. But in general Saffron Walden
is your best bet, especiacially for Census returns.
Apologies for answer Number 6. Should be Jamie Lee Curtis.

Hello List.
Can anyone suggest where a Catholic who died at Buckhurst Hill in 1871
might have been buried?

I've just got back from holidays and don't know whether anyone else
has posted this, but the reference to arc welding in 1900 could be
possible. The following gives a history of the various welding
processes:

According to the Dictionary of National Biography it's the *Earl* of Derby
- the surname was indeed Stanley, and may be still - the last listed in my
DNB is Edward George Villiers Stanley, 17th earl, 1865-1948. This chap and
his father Frederick Arthur Stanley would be the ones who coincided with
Pat's grandmother. Their associations are mainly with Lancashire - in fact
the 17th earl would have been *my* grandmother's local MP in the West
Houghton division of Lancashire.

Hi Ruth
The 1841 census is not very clear. The best I could do was to find the Wiggin<
s> (or even Higgin) family in Great Wakering High Street (unnumbered)
They were:
Thomas, 35, C
Can anyone please give me information about Sydney House, Horn(e) Lane, Woodford Green?
When built, when (presumably) demolished, exact location with respect to present-day streets
and - particularly - ownership in the 1860/1870s? Was this mansion a private residence or an
institution of some kind? Any information would be much appreciated and acknowledged.

Dear List,
Is it possible that someone has the 1851 Census for Boreham and can find
for me
SAMUEL MARCHANT 30 No birthplace ESS 355 BRN
ZACHARIAH SMITH 63 White Notley ESS 355 BRN
and any other family members mentioned, with their details?
I believed they could be found in Writtle since I was given ' Writtle
Ref. HO/107/1776' but have been told that
this applies to other areas as well and that the 'BRN' is the folio on
the Boreham Census.
SAMUEL married SARAH SMITH, d
The BARNARD's are part of my family tree for PLAYLE/WHITEHEAD in Stebbing ... quite a complex family network I might add :) ... PLAYLE's were Millers in Stebbing for a couple of centuries however I know little about the WHITEHEAD's other than that they had the White Hart ... My PLAYLE line left Stebbing in the early 1730's and settled in Harlow.
In point of actual fact my PLAYLE/WHITEHEAD line has been a difficult one as far as research goes.
Bright Blessings
Sandie

Greetings all
I'm trying to get a feel for what rural life was like in Clavering c.1855, when my great-great-grandfather, a farm labourer, emigrated to Australia at the tender age of 19. Knowing that he was leaving everything he ever knew behind him, it must have been like a one-way journey to the moon. What might have driven him and so many others to such a drastic measure?
There are some obvious time-honoured explanations (the poor laws and fear of the workhouse being among them) but I'd be grateful f

If you go to www.old-maps.co.uk and do a co-ordinate search using the coordinates 592890,185943 you will see where both North Shoebury Hall and Moat House (Farm?) were in about 1880. North Shoebury Hall is no m
There definitely had to be two witnesses to any marriage.
One's impression is that, most often, at least one of the witnesses would be
a family member (usually not the father, but he could be), and the other a
family member, a friend or the parish clerk. I don't think there was any
restriction on who could be a witness, but it obviously should be someone
who knew the couple! I once read that some rectors/curates insisted the
parish clerk should be the second witness. And he was boss! Some clergy
didn't
Hello All,
I am new to this list and looking for descendants or information on Robert Jonah MALLAM born 14 April 1867 in Farnham, Surrey and his wife Alice Julia ELSLEY born 18 December 1870 Guildford Surrey.
They married in 1896 in Guildford and apparently shifted to Farnham Essex where their daughter Freda Alice E. MALLAM was born in 1901.
Both Robert and Alice were listed as Elementary School Master and Elementary School Mistress in the 1901 census, at Farnham Essex. Is there any history avail
Hi Ruth,

A point to note is that though these MIs were passed onto ERO, I was unable
to trace them via SEAX and only came upon them after a local contact in
Tillingham told me about them.

If anyone who asked for a look up on the 1841census for Harlow
hasn't received the results yet, can they just remind me again
of the surnames they wish me to keep a look out for, please?
I've now transcribed part of this census (the part that is now
Old Harlow & Churchgate Street) and hope to transcribe the
surrounding parishes of Latton, Netteswell, Potter
