If you go to:
www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/surname
you will see that the name Farrell is
listed as being most common in County
Longford, followed by Dublin, Louth, Meath, Roscommon and Westmeath.
www.goireland.com also says Longford and surounding areas.
Check it out.

James C. Farel was born somewhere in Ireland in 1827. He came to the US
sometime before 1850 (probably in the 1840s) and settled in Buffalo, NY.
He married Ellen Hendy (born 1832 somewhere in Ireland) in 1849 or 1850
probably in the US or Canada. The spelling, FAREL, was used consistently
in official records in the US, but I suspect it is a corruption of Farrell.
My question is - can anyone suggest an area in Ireland where the surname
FARRELL or FAREL was common in the early 1800s? My goal is to locate
I have heard that there will be a reunion of the Farrells in County
Longford, Ireland in 2000. Does anyone have any details on this????

Hello Blue,
Although Peter Farrell is not a relative of mine, he might be related to one of the Farrell's on the Farrell researchers
discussion list.
I have forwarded your message on to the 150+ Farrell's researching their family on this listserver.
Good luck.

I found James Farrell, 30 Townsend St., listed as a harness maker in the
1850 Dublin Directory on the web site:
http://homepage.tinet.ie/~plough/dubdir.html (Great site!) Now a
question for those who are experienced at Irish research: How do I pursue
that directory listing to get more information on James Farrell the harness
maker? All suggestions welcomed!

oops, my mistake.
Sorry for the duplicate massage, I wish that messages from the Farrell
listerver would show up as being from their, instead of the individual
address.
I quite often have messages to change people's subscription addresses and
personal requests to forward messages on to the list.
Regards
