Hi all,
I finally found a book on Lady Hamilton Nelsons Women by Tom Pocock
published by Andre Deutsch in 1999.
Apparently Emma was born Emily Lyon on 26 April 1765 in Denhall, Cheshire.
Her father was the village blacksmith, but Emma and her brother liked to
make out he was a disinherited heir of the local land owner, Cadogan.
So in rising through society Cadogan was the name Emma and her mother used.
She went into service as a nursemaid. Then she performed unspecified duties
at a dubious clinic

Paul,
What are your reasons for dismissing this George, since the age on both
census tallies, also his wife is some nine year older and could well have
been deceased by 1881. I have yet to transcribed the deaths from the FRO
index for 1871-1880 although I do have them on micro tapes- it might prove
useful to see if there is a death of a Mary in Ticehurst district between
the two census.

Hi, Paul
Did anyone ever send you any information regarding New Featherstone, in
Zimbabwe? If not, I wonder how we can find out about the place? I am just
very curious.

I think Frank Featherstone was the son of George Featherstone who ran a
bakery in Tunbridge Wells according to the 1881 census.
I know that the sons of George sold the bakery when George died and set up
an electrical business in London Road Tunbridge Wells. The Frank Im talking
about was born in 1870, and his brother in the bakery business was Frederick
(born 1867).
Fred and Frank definitely had brothers Fawkes and Fritz and a sister Alice.
Other brothers and sisters that I have not confirmed as being th

Dear Naomi,
Once you've solved a murder that's usually it. Once you've solved one
genealogical problem you end up with several more.
I have not found George the Baker born in Bromley in the 1871 census of
Ticehurst Parish, only the other George, born in Brenchley. Yes, the next
step I think is to look in the 1871 Tunbridge Wells census for George the
baker, and the 1861 census for both Georges.
There is a marriage in the December 1860 quarter for George Featherstone
(ref: 2b.125) but I do not know which

It was an educated guess - after about 15 or more years of researching my

I am right.
I am also willing to bet that the 1851 census of Ticehurst will show a
different wife. Of course, I realise all this has to be double checked -
having been on some wild goose chases I reco

Hi all!
I've just thought, if as it appears that George and Elizabeth were married in Ticehurst
(marriage of George Dec 1/4 1860 - 2b 125) then the Steeds could have been in Frant at the time.
Girls were usually married from their home town. They may also be in the 1861 census for Ticehurst area.

Dear Naomi,
They are on the British Isles Vital Records Index CD from the LDS. I am
awaiting a fiche (it's taking an eternity) of the St Nicholas Church,
Chiselhurst births, marriages and deaths - I am sure I'll find them there.
Chiselhurst is within the Bromley registration district. Once I've got that
and seen what is in them I was going to go to Bromley Local Studies centre
to look at the Parish Chest for the church which I know is held there to see
what will be revealed.

Hi,
I live in Merton where Nelson and Lady H hung out. I'll see if I can find
anything in the local library. My GGG Grandfather lived and set up business
in the former home of Capt. Davis, one of Nelson's captains - a piece of
rope from The Victory existed there until at least my father's time. Mind
you whether it was attached to a bell or to flush the toilet no one is
saying!
