I need help tracking down a "family legend". Rachel Westervelt, wife of John Briton Varick, of Hudson and Sussex Counties, NJ, inherited some money from her father around 1913 (give or take a couple of years). Her husband thought investing in land and businesses in Florida was a truly bright idea. (Please remember this is a Family Legend with some reasons to believe there may be a tad of truth). They invested in "a commissary on the edge of Lake Okeechobee". Because of The Flood (as the story goes)
