Tried to install FTST on my Windows 95 desktop. When I tried to start it
using the sample dataset got this error:
MS Visual Foxpro
Fatal Error: Exception code=C000005
then there were lots of files listed
During the install process, FTST was not able to locate one file (perhaps a
Windows file) but I didn't write down the name. I have just gone through the
process of having to format C:\ and reinstall everything. :-(
Anyone have any idea what that Foxpro error is?
Now I'm concerned I won't be able to run
Hi, I had to uninstall TMG so as to reinstall it into my E drive. When I
tried to refresh FTST I was not able to and had to open a new data set. Now,
I am having two problems-
1. Each person's ID is now preceded by a 2: , i.e., I am now 2:1 instead of
just 1.
2. All of my custom flags are now followed by #2 on the accent choice list
although they are still without the #2 suffix on the flag window. So when I
chose to accent my people in a chart I am getting a message - Ire_Anc#2 flag

drawing of the charts and figured someone has done this...

only way I can do this is manually, which can take some time, I was hoping

Can't help with the FoxPro error, but wanted to let you know I installed
FTST on a Windows 95 desktop without a hitch. So don't give up on TMGW 5.0
just yet!!

Thanks for the response Terry, I had already deleted the first project but
tried deleting the sample project and that seems to have deleted the 2:

my chart correctly. But I'll try to figure out an alternative way to do it.

I am having trouble installing FTST. I have 26 g's of free space on C, so this is not the problem. I close out all running programs using enditall 2 but still get message that installashield has been interupted and will close. This occurs about 50% thru installation. Tech support told me to install in safe mode. I tried this but got message cannot access windows installer in safe mode. Tech support also said that I am first to report this type problem. I am running WindowsXP Pro. Any suggestions out there
If you are having problems with your "ikernel", you may need to
re-install the ikernel.exe file again. You can do this by going to this
site:
http://support.installshield.com/
In the section in the middle of the front page, headed "FIND A SOLUTION"
click on "NEW! KNOWLEDGE BASE"
On the next page - "KNOWLEDGE BASE", type: Q105097 in "ARTICLE ID" and
click SEARCH
On the next page, click on the document link: Q105097 - INFO: Install
the Latest Version of Ikernel.exe Nov 8, 2001
You will then see the install b

You can accent on Data Set ID. I'm not sure that helps, given your other
needs.

Bill,
The only thought I've got is that you may have to be logged in as an
administrator to install in XP.

When FTST first came out, there were many questions about how to
resize the display of these two windows. At the time I didn't have
time to play with FTST and therefore did not save these messages.
Now I'm knee-deep in FTST, and the Family and Tree view displays
bother me. On a 17-inch monitor with a screen res of 1280 by
whatever, they're both enormously magnified, and the type is at least
18 points.
What are my options to reduce the scale of magnification so that
these views can truly be useful?
Hi Bonita,
I haven't seen an answer, so while I'm not quite sure if I'm thinking straight enough today, I'll try. If none of the following makes sense just hit Delete .
Firstly,
I don't know why you can't search by anything but Surname. That one sounds like Tech. Support to me unless someone else has an idea (you are using FTST v1.1, aren't you?)
Secondly,
Provided that you can *sort* by ID#:

Thanks to Lance and Debbie for their suggestions. I have tried both but still get the same error message. Since FTST is the only program I cannot install, I assume I have a bad disk and will either get a replacement or refund. I installed TMG with no problem and it is not worth the hassle and if FTST is this buggy maybe I should get a refund and forget about it. Thanks again.Get more from the Web. Ok .. I admit I have not played with FTST much, however, due to some splitting of databases, I lost several marriage events ... or at least the 2nd principal. So, I restored two older versions of my database in an attempt to find the 2nd principal. My problem is that I have a very large database and it is very slow going through name by name ... so I was hoping to either filter or accent so I could more easily tell which is the one I am trying to repair (DB 1).
So, I was hoping to filter by Mother not kn

In version 2 of VCF, which is the one shipped with FTST, there is an editing feat

Amy, when you say you deleted the "first project" do you really mean Project, or do you mean Dataset? Remember that in FTST, unlike TMG4, they are two different things. In FTST, a Project can
Chris - Unlike TMG, you can sent the screen font size to a smaller size. Go
to File>Preferences>Program Options. You can change the fonts under both

Thanks for trying, Cheri, but that doesn't do it. I already have both
options set to 8-point Tahoma. It's not just type that's oversized --
the Close button's about an inch square. :-) The whole view is
enormously magnified.

Finally got FTST installed on my Desktop Windows 95 computer with the
fantastic assistance of Dave and the programmers at WG Tech support. Hugh
public thank you to all.
What started a long series of problems (too long to discuss) was Micron Tech

Thanks Terry and all and I agree that it should be wide but part of it was
the weird way it did it so the total top to bottom fit on one page. I will
give your web page a check, I should have to start with!

Oh my gosh. I had a similar problem with both Legacy and FTM when I changed
my screen resolution. It seems that some programs have an inverse
relationship to the screen size--you make the Windows configuration so that
everything is smaller and in these programs stuff gets bigger! Even
changing it back didn't solve the problem, nor did reinstalling the
programs. Hope someone with more knowledge can help you out. Maybe their
suggestions will help with my programs, also.
