Now this means that you are excessively detailing the pictures. Once an
image is embedded into a VC2 file it can no longer be compressed. There are

I have just had a call from a new user of FTST (a downloaded version) on XP
Home who is getting consistent Blue Screens. Does anyone know of issues
here or is it a problem for Wholly Genes support? I have not seen this kind
of problem reported before.
It sounds to me as if either the XP is corrupted or the FTST install has
not completed properly.

Bonita,
Two things come to mind concerning FTST's apparent slowness. I have
FTST on two computers, main and laptop. On the main computer it takes
about 30 secs to fire up SlideShow Manager, on the laptop it takes about
1 sec. This is not just due to processor speed. The main computer uses
Win98, the laptop 2000. Some initial research seems to have pinpointed
the presence of HP drivers in the Win98 environment to be the problem.

I've been using TMG for about 3 years. My sister-in-law just purchased
TMG about 3 weeks ago. We're both using 4.0c but are willing upgrade to
4.0d.
I have a number of custom tags, sources and reports as well as data that
I would like to share with her. I want to get FTST but she is not
comfortable with that at this time as I can well understand. If I get
FTST and she does not, will I still be able to share my data and custom
configurations with her (assuming she upgrades to 4.0d)?
Thanks....Barbara B

Nick,
That would explain my problems as well. I don't have a HP driver on my
laptop which is a much older system than my desktop, yet FTST seemed to run
faster on the laptop. Hopefully 5.0 will fix that problem. Of course I am
using

Robin,
EVERY BSOD, I have seen in XP has been related to Drivers.
I would have them do a tho
There is a different design for FTST. The Children and Siblings are shown
in separate windows. Arrange a layout that has the Details, Children, and
Siblings windows open and you will then see the Children and Siblings in
all three views of the Details, Person, Family, and Tree, which you can not
do in tmg4.

Yes, I do agree .. and Microsoft has a program you can run and it will tell
you what you need to update. My problem is that some of the hardware
companies would rather sell new equipment (like Iomega and the Ditto tape
backup) and Acers for my CD-RW. They both have flat refused to provide an
XP driver. What really burns me is that my backup files are on the Ditto
tapes .. so back to good ol' DOS. Maybe we should have stayed on DOS ...

Does anyone know of a way to set the family view (also tree view) in FTST to
emulate that in TMG? I have gotten quite used to, and use frequently, the
TMG family view. I particularly like the showing of children and their
birth/death dates and SPOUSES. In the family view that I have in FTST all I
get is a one generation tree view (without the showing of children and
siblings I might add) All in all I much prefer the TMG version.

What was the solution to printing large charts? I'm working on one with
only 14 pictures, eight generations, with several lines very short. I
can't even print one page at a time.
For those having driver problems (can't find XP drivers), don't forget to
check out the Windows 2000 drivers for your cards, etc. In most cases but
not all, XP can use the Windows 2000 drivers in place of XP drivers. I have
successfully used them in business production units with no adverse
affects. A warning tho, that this may not resolve the problem for everyone
since each configuration is unique. Nice part about it is that with XP
Professional, I'm not sure about the Home version, you can roll back
I have not received one from Robin .. but, I have received a lot of messages
with attached virus the past month .. at least 1 or 2 day. It is scary ..
never recognize any of the names. Some were even disguised as 'returned
message' messages... scary, huh?

As I run a 233 Cyrix it would have to run faster than FTST does, if it ran
any slower it would be at a dead stop.!
Not that I am complaining-I realize that need really up to date hardware.
I've got it sitting in boxes- just waiting to get TMG 5.0. I bought that few

Robin:
After attempting to upgrade to Home XP, I lost my entire disk .. actually, I
think it was because it caused my Norton Anti-Virus to no longer check email
and auto-protect, and I downloaded email before I realized it.
After losing everything (except my TMG backup), I threw Home XP out and
bought Professional XP. It seems to be working fine .. but, I am still in
the process of rebuilding.

I have a problem about moving to TMG Ver 5 .. that is the speed of my laptop, which I use when I travel. It is a Toshiba 780DVD but it is only 266 Mhz. I did try to run FTST on it .. but, it was SSSSSSSLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOW. So, my delimna is ...
1) do I spend the money on a new laptop .. about $1500-$3000
2) do I do all my editing on TMG4.0d and then do my reports on TMG5?
Is anyone else confronted with this kind of delimna? What are you thoughts .. pros and cons?

The latest viruses are not actually from the person whose name appears in the "from"
line. The virus goes through the victim's hard drive looking for addresses, then
fakes the "from" line with one of addresses it finds. I've

Really ... why do you feel that it will run faster than a view only?
