Hello,
I don't think the problem will be in finding enough potential transcribers.
I think we're going to have to solve a bigger logistical problem: How do we keep all these eager-beavers supplied with records to transcribe?
Rick Elliott
Perhaps any queries about corrections could be directed to this list -then one person (or two or three depending on the workload) who has access to the whole range of years, could be responsible for the rechecking of data, and a correction could then be added in the appropriate manner.
Just a thought

Hi Dick
I believe what has happened is that Ian sent his message to "Richard" on
this open list instead of sending off list.
I think another Richard living in Spain volunteered his services earlier
today to FreeBMD via this list.

Hi Freebies,
on the 17th of September I asked you all to forward a message to other
Rootsweb lists, asking for fiche or new volunteers for FreeBMD. Thank you
to everyone who did so and welcome to our new volunteers. No more for a
minute please, I need a break! .
Within the last 5 days, I've been inundated with 69 enquiries and offers to
help transcribe, of which 51 individuals have already returned our
questionnaire, and are been slotted into syndicates.
This is wonderful progress, and gives me hope t
Hi everybody,
I guess this message is primarily intended for a
technician working on this project but obviously I
would be grateful for any feedback.
I am a member of the syndicate currently transcribing
the marriages of 1882.
My syndicate coordinator submits the data on my behalf
and we have had no noteworthy problems with submitting
data to FreeBMD during the last 9 months.
However, he has reported a problem with submitting the
following entry which I generated using SpeedBMD:

Where it is on a keyboard depends on the country map you are using. For
us lot in the UK it is in the third row on the far right .. just above
the # :))
It depends on the keyboard settings you have. Are you using a spanish
keyboard ?

Regrettably I am not able to help at the moment with transcriptions. I hope
to join you again when problems at this end are resolved. In the meanwhile I
would like to unsubscribe from the list. Best wishes to all

Hi experienced transcribers:
I haven't yet received my first batch of entries to transcribe, but I am
already doubting about the following:
In the F1 "Help" file of SpeedBMD, Section 8 (Entering Data) I read the
following:' ~ displays a grid of accented characters in which you use
cursor keys to move around and Enter to select one'
This is fine, except for one thing: I have no such key as ~ . I have a
modern Compaq computer, with a new keyboard bought last week....... but no

I am researching my family history (duh! - silly comment - everyone here is
probably doing that!!) and will be doing some research at the LDS FHS in
Etobicoke and/or Brampton, Ontario, Canada where, I see they have complete
copies of the indexes. I am already incredibly grateful to BMD as I have
already found two of my ancestors (Thomas Henry Wallis, pg 1d, 134 and
William Johnson Bush, pg 1b, 159) in the data already transcribed. I would
like to give something back so I am offering to transcribe some data.
Hi Freebies,
Do any of you belong to a county mailing list for family history? I have
posted the following to the Glamorgan and Devon Lists today, and have had a
number of offers to help transcribing.
If you belong to a List, I'd be grateful if you could pass on the details.

P.S. If you haven't yet found the Rootswebs Mailing lists, these are well
worth subscribing to if you are carrying out research in a particular
location. http://lists.rootsweb.com/

Hi there
I'm new to this list, so I thought I should introduce myself. I'm an
educational researcher, but I'm more interested in my family history -
firmly rooted in Yorkshire. I'd like to volunteer for transcribing etc
- preferably something from one of my areas of interest, but as there
are many of them I'm sure that wouldn't be too difficult.
Unfortunately it's not easy for me to get at any of the records, so how
would this work?
I'd be really grateful if someone could explain to me how to proceed

Hi Richard
Welcome to FreeBMD. I'm glad that you sent this message, as the IRC
overwrote your address!
Thanks for your email offering to help FreeBMD. I'm the Volunteer
Co-ordinator and it's my job to find you a Syndicate best suited to your
needs.
It would assist us if you would please complete the Questionnaire below and
return it to me.
We usually work in groups or Syndicates. The Syndicate leader will usually
provide you with raw data or allocate to you specific events to transcribe.

Hi Freebies,
I think I'll give up family history now I've seen the message below. Many
thanks to those who posted to the Rootswebs Lists today. I have spent all
night enrolling new volunteers. I'm overwhelmed with offers.
Welcome to all those who are reading this list for the first time.

Hello,
The FreeBMD database has now reached the 3 million entry mark.
Congratulations and well done to all the FreeBMD volunteers!
Than you everyone who has helped, in particular, with providing
source to transcribers. Volunteers have been sending out fiche
(often bought especially), printing out hard copy and sending that
out as well as those who have been involved with scanning.
Thanks are due to Darryl Bonk, in Canada, who has been scanning
for the project. We have now uploaded 15 quarters of marr
Can anyone give me advance on inputing to speedbdm. I have been trying to input data I had already obtained from my own research and instead of the batch header reading death, it reads birth. My question is how can I change the event on a batch already in progress ? Also, do you start a new batch for each quarter ?

Hi, I have just joined the list and hopefully the team of inputters of this
important data. I have recently started volunteering at our local FHC so
thought I had a very good advantage as we have nearly all the fiche right
there. I have recorded many censuses for Ontario, Canada for the internet
and many cemeteries for BCCFA (British Columbia Cemeteries Finding Aid) but
would like to try something new. I have assisted in other projects for the
LDS church because of their valuable assistance to their patr

Whilst I think 10,000 new additions a day is a huge achievement, if I read
the numbers correctly there is little evidence that the rate is now
increasing. It took about 4 months to go from 1M to 2M entries and it will be
about the same from 2M to 3M. At 3M entries a year, that means over 30 years
to complete the 100M. Let's hope that the admirable efforts that are being
made to get more contributors pay off!
How do I get myself removed from this website. I accidentally hit a key
that apparently enrolled me as a transcriber. I am not ready at this time
to volunteer. I do not want to get so many messages a day. Thank you for
your help.

Hi again,
How would I enter the christian name Josui or for that matter, any
accented character?
Thanks
