Hello Jimmy,
My name is Sam Stewart. My roots in Clarke County start with my
GG-Grandfather Alfred Stewart about 1820 or earlier,as what records I have
been able to obtain start in 1800 in Oglethorpe County. I don't know if
Alfred migrated to Clarke County or if the County started with him in it.
Alfred had 2 wifes, the first was hannah Phillips whom he married in 1800.
Indications are that she died some time around 1818. The second wife (my
line) was Mary (Polly) Crawford, whom he married about 1820. Most
I will be glad to exchange anything with you that you need. I know that
Elizabeth Lovic Mitchell , d/o Archelaus Hughes Mitchell, is not usually
found in the records but since she was my gggrandmother I know she existed.
She md. Epamonodas Dunn Pitts, also, Methodist minister and teacher from
Selma, Dallas Co., AL. E.D.Pitts was s/o Noel and Clara Dunn Pitts. It is
good hearing from a fellow researcher.

I am looking for any information that might help me link up the Hugh

Hugh Logan, Clarke Co., m. Nancy Jennings (Tuning), Warren Co., in
1801. Hugh was on Capt. Loyd's district tax list in 1803, and had a

In 1816 Hugh Login (Logan) bought tools, including an auger, during the
Cloud Thrasher estate sale.
In the 1820 land lottery, the "orphans of Hugh Logan" had a draw and in

Hi Barbara,
I sent Earl a copy of my research on the Jennings family as an attachment to
another email. Would you be interested in having a copy? I don't have any
information on Miles Jennings, but that doesn't mean there is no connection.
(There was an old joke to the effect that there was a Jennings behind every
tree.) Tell me a little about Miles and I'll see if I can find the link.

Researching Arthur H. Barron, died in Athens, Ga. 1942.
Buried at Oconee Hill Cemetery. His sons were given as Pete, Jack, and Zelvan, and daughter Shirley all of Athens. His wife was Bessie, her son listed with the last name of Miller.
Roy,
I seem to recall that John Harvey Walthall (my gggfather), who married
Suzanna Morgan, was from Jasper County before he moved on to Merriwether
County, so it is quite likely that so was Suzanna. However, I also recall
that Suzanna was listed somewhere as being from Morgan County. I have a
good bit of information on the Walthalls but only a little on the Morgans,
all of which is at home (I'm at work now). I'll look it up and let you know
what I have later this week.

I am researching my husband's TURNER family in Clarke Co.
John Baldwin and Mary MATTHEWS TURNER were first in a Clarke Co. census in
1860 with children John Erasmus and Mildred.
Baldwin died from illness contracted during the Civil War, but Mary was

Mildred TURNER married Samuel BAILEY who worked with her father at the

Jimmy,
Thanks for taking on such a big job. I have not been terribly active in
researching my Jackson/Clarke County ancestors because (a) I have little to
go on and (2) the demands of my job. I hope to solve both problems next
year with my retirement!
I am not 100% sure that I am connected to Clarke County, but the
circumstantial evidence that I have to date is fairly convincing. My
ggranduncle, James B. Jackson was born in Clarke County around 1815
according to Methodist Church records. His father was

I'm also a Mitchell researcher. I have Jane A. 's last name as Rochelle.
I work with two other Mitchells researchers on our lines. I was just about
to send in my roll call for Mitchell.

My Clarke County families are Hamiltons, Laniers, Langfords and Heards,
specifically John Hamilton, born ca 1825, who married first Catherine
Lanier and second, Martha Lanier. Both Catherine and Martha were
daughters of George Malone Lanier and Mary (Polly) Langford. I believe
that John was the son of Reuben Hamilton and Mary Heard, but cannot
prove it. Both John and Reuben and families moved to Marion County, GA
by 1860.
Any help/clues/advise on any of these families would be greatly
appreciated. The

Mary moved to the Athens area after 1773. Caleb moved on to SC, Joshua moved
