The "A.A. Baldwin" on this list is actually Hartwell A. Baldwin, my GGGF. His first term as Sheriff began in 1868, and he served a total of four terms, although not consecutively.

Several of us Boring Cousins are searching for the death date and burial site
of Isaac Boring, Jr. He was in Gritters Dist in 1860 but gone by 1870. He
was alive in Aug. of 1867 when he signed an oath book in Cobb. He married
two Winn sisters, first Charlotte/Lottie, and second Elizabeth. Elizabeth
Winn was also living in 1860. It is possible that Isaac is buried in
Cherokee County but we can't find any cemetery listing of him there. We
would appreciate any information. Thank you.

There are several descriptions of Georgia's lotteries on the web. One
of the best ones is at http://www.sos.state.ga.us/archives/rs/1832.htm
If you're trying to locate the names of winners, I'm not aware of a
full listing on the web, but this site has a list of reference works that
you can find in libraries.

I am searching for information on my Wells family. My great great grandfather, George Washington Wells, was born in Cobb County, according to one of his marriage records in IL. Of course, another said near Atlanta. First of all, would Cobb County have been considered to be near Atlanta in the mid 1800s? Secondly, does anyone have any information about the Wells family in Cobb County?
George was born 03/07/1844 to James Alfred Wells and Susanna (?) Bell. Both of his parents were born in TN according
They aren't shown on the 1850 Cobb census, so were perhaps here only
briefly. It's possible that James Wells came to Cobb while working with the
railroad, or for some other enterprise. Your guess would be as good as any
as to why they were here in 1844, but the railroad was my first thought.
Yes, Cobb is considered as being "near Atlanta", though I can't be sure if
it would have been considered "near" in the 1840s - and no, we have no birth
or death records prior to the state's mandate of 1919. In fact,
I'm looking for any info or descendants on/of Horace Field who d. in Marietta, GA in 1930. He had children: Richard Dudley, David Bassford and Rosamond (Mrs. Clarence Eaty).

Linda,
I appreciate the lookup. Unfortunately, they had moved back to TN by
1847. Their next child was born at that time. As for records, I figured
that there weren't any, but it never hurts to ask. I guess my major
downfall is curiosity. I'm curious if they moved to be near family or if
James was following work As far as I know, his main source of income was
always farming, so it's possible that he may have been working as a farm
hand in Georgia for a while before going back home. Thanks again
Can you tell me what the initials "J. L." represent? I am checking the 1850
census for McCollums in those counties, and it would help to know what his
name may have been.
Also, in what part of the county was his property located, was he in Cobb
before the 1900 census, and when and where did he die?

Sue,
Insofar as legal marriage records go, ours early ones were lost during the
war, though from time to time they turn up in Bible records, etc. None of
mine have, but even after searching for 32 years, I am still hopeful.
If you need a lookup for marriages recorded after the war, I will be happy
to help.
Much luck in your search,

This is not be the correct Isaac, but is all I have on the name in my death
notices collection, and "Woodstock" may be a clue.
"Marietta Journal - Issue dated January 6, 1887:
Mr. Isaac Boring, son of J. P., died Thursday night, December 30th, at
Woodstock."
The above Isaac was the son of John P. and Mary Boring, was born ca 1870,
and shown on the 1880 census of Cobb County in the Kennesaw district.

Here's hoping someone can find a city directory or phone book listing for my

He lived most of his later life in Chicago, but we know he lived a few years

listings of his name in Chicago telephone books.
While in Atlanta, he lived with a woman named Florence. They claimed
(falsely) to be siblings, so a listing for Florence Pickering might be them
