Hello Harold,
Thanks again for your information about the Gadberrys of Yazoo County, MS. I
can understand your frustration in trying to find the Gadberry/Smith link. I
sure hope I never have to research "Smith". My Brown & Miller are hard
enough! In the case you mention below in my opinion if Thomas b. 1775 had
been married previously his children would certainly have traveled with him to
Barren Co., KY from NC. I've never been able to find any records in Barren Co
that identify those Gadberry's you

I will try sending this again; the first one I sent out somehow just got
'snarfed up' along the way:
It is a sad fact of human nature and history that people tend to make slaves
of other people. Here in this country when the Civil War was over, and the
Afro-Americans (and Indians too) found themselves 'freedmen' the government
told them they had to choose 'American' names. For most of them, the only
name they had ever heard was the name of their former masters, and so they
adopted the name of that person.
Hi Marcia:
Sorry for the delay in responding to your email. We have been traveling for
the past two weeks. Thanks for all the Gadberry information below.
Especially the I don't believe I gave this to you but can
always accept the credit! I accessed the web page and have sent an email to
Treven Dunning. Although you are busy I do appreciate your taking the time to
write. If you are able to locate any evidence of the parentage of Nathaniel #1

Where are the Afro American Gadberry's in all of this? I know they exist
because I met some in the Army.

Roy,
I too am researching the Gadberry's as 3 of the Gadberry's married into the
KELLER family in Cumberland County, IL during the 1850 - 1890's. What I am
wondering is if they would of all come from the Nathanial Gadberry line. Any
help with this family would be appreciated.
Thank you,

Thanks to Phyllis Solter & Lindsay Thomas:
While doing research prompted by Lindsay Thomas's email to the list,
I ran into this will for Mary Mason Barlow mother of the Mary Barlow that
married William Gadberry, son of Thomas Gadberry, Jr. & Prudence Street.
It also shows Rhonda Gadbury as a witness which further strengthens the
Family Unit of Thomas, Jr.

I greatly enjoyed reading about James M. Gadberry of Union Co.
The history is fascinating! Too bad the only previous mention of him
is one line in the Gadberry Family Research Index:

I have been searching for information regarding George W. Gadberry who
married Betsey Ann Ellis on Apr 23, 1861 in Casey County, KY. Some time
ago I corresponded with Roy Juch about this couple. Betsey Ann Ellis
was the daughter of James and Ann Thomas Ellis of Casey County; she was
born about 1845. I would love to find out if this couple had any
children, where they lived after their marriage, and where interred.
Thank you for any help or leads that anyone might be able to send my
way.

Hope all have a healthy and happy 2001.
Does anyone on the list have anything on John Gadberry who appears in
Jackson Co. Ill for the 1840 census ? He shows to be in the 20-30 age
group, placing birth 1810-1820. He had one male child under five ...and
probably had others soon, in Illinois.
Any help appreciated.

Sorry to say, but the Gadberry Family Research Index dosen't show the "Spouse/Parent/Other" field for your Colonel J.M. Gadberry. It simply says: "Name, 1861, Colonel, S. Carolina, Civil War "
So I would guess that this record came from Confederate Military Records.
You could try to locate the original. But if he was killed in battle, and didn't file for a pension, there may not be any record of his parents. Good luck! Howard
Mary-- This is great!
I think you have just located part of the family of John Gadberry, missing since the 1840 Indiana Census! -- But it is largely circumstantial at this point. You said that the information came from an Index, and I am concerned about the age and the spelling of Careline Gadbury. The enumerators script can be read many ways!
Here is the saga as I would interpret it. Can you or any of the other Gadberry researchers comment on this tale?
John Gadberry married Mary Ann King, March 183
I am a self-proclaimed interloper into the GADBERRY Family line. Currently
I do not know of any direct kinship with that family, but in two separate
instances, my blood kin seems to be associated in some way with the GADBERRYS.
The oldest instance is mentioned first, and then a separate letter will
follow with a second set of instances.

(nee MCKEE). The wedding took place in Rowan County, N. C. about 1805.

I know little about Alfred Marion, I just wanted to be sure there was no
confusion between Alfred's.

Oy, vey! This gets more complicated all the time...somewhere, by somebody a
'million' years ago in my family, I was told my g-grandfather Joseph Wiley
King died when Grandpa was only thirteen, which would have been about 1902?
But today Mom and I were looking through an old family album, and there was
a picture of him in 1918! It was very faint, but I finally was able to read
the writing across the bottom of the photo...it said; "At grandma's in
Soledad (California) 1918." And then Mom told me she was ab

Hello Harold,
I suppose that one could decipher someone's poor writing of Grinstead as
Winstead but that's only a guess. I have thought of that also but decided that
we needed more proof such as the same given names as example.
I am interested in everything you will share on James M. Gadberry because I
want to tie him into an ancestral family someday if possible?
