I just want to thank everyone for all the help and information you gave me and the rapid response. After 60 years of my mother looking for Scott Kerr, I found him in about 3 hours. Unfortunately, it was 20 years too late. Thanks again,

Judy,
To find an obituary for any person, go to the "Funeral Net" site:
http://www.funeralnet.com/search.html
When you get the funeral homes available for that town or county,
write or e-mail the possible funeral homes, asking if your person's
service was held there. Make sure you give as much information as
possible. Many of these funeral homes file them by date, so give the
closest date you can, and their full names, if possible.

I am looking for info on Abraham Burton of Franklin Co. who was in the 1850 census with son William John Burton (I believe my gr-gr-grandfather). Abraham supposedly died in Arkansas in 1857 but I can't find any documentation that states where in Arkansas he died. In 1850, he had several minor children and no wife listed so if he died in 1857 there should be some guardianship papers on record somewhere. If you have any info or know where I can get this info, please let me know. It would be greatly apprec

Hi,
Someone posted a message yesterday on the Strickland list and mentioned a John Strickland from Georgia that she was researching. It got me thinking about MY John Strickland.
I'm just getting started on this line, so I don't have a lot of information.
My Great-great grandfather was John Allan Strickland. He lived in the Canon area of Franklin County, GA. His first wife was Luvannah Brewer, who later became Luvannah Brown. She lived and is burried near Royston, in Madison County. On my Grandfat
David Payne has on his website, listed a Rhoda Walters b 1786 VA, and a Robert Walters, Jr. My question is this. Could Rhoda be the dau of Robert Walters, Jr. I have a Robert Walters, Jr. b VA, died Franklin Co., GA, with a dau named Rhoda. Could they be the same ? Rhoda Walters had a sister, Lavina, (or Lavinia) who married Samuel Pruitt III, and they died in Franklin Co. GA. Lavina and Samuel are direct Ancestors.

Terri,
Kezekiah Stokes Conolly was the 2nd wife of Samuel Pruitt, Jr. His 1st wife was Lavinia Walters, mother of all of his children, except the one that Samuel and Kezia had together, named John Willis Pruitt. (Samuel Pruitt Jr., was known as Samuel III, because his father was named Samuel and his grandfather was named Samuel.)
The children of Samuel and Lavinia Walters, were Hezekiah, Lucy, Samuel IV, Elizabeth, Robert, Joseph, and Polly.
Hezekiah was my husband's gg-grandfather. I have lots of infor

I'll add this to Anita's good information (thanks Anita for the Web site).
You can use the cemetery information also. I've found several of those
cemeteries are still maintained and with sextons (is that term still used?).
Whomever maintains the cemetery can tell you a lot sometimes...such as where
your ancestor is buried (lot and block), even if the plot is unmarked. They
might even be able to tell you which funeral home now has a defunct or
merged funeral home's records.

According to the Georgia Death Index, Scott A. Kerr died 7-29-1981 in

Does any one have access to Georgia Marriage Records?

I don't think this is possible. The early federal census for Franklin
County were lost...... destroyed.......mislaid.......hidden from us because
they knew we'd want them ;-).......
The first actual census for Franklin County Georgia is the 1830 Census.
There have been attempts at reconstruction of earlier census years. 1790 I
believe.... and then there are tax records......Thank goodness these
