This is very interesting to me, I have just begun my search but my
great-grandmother was a Wells from the Gordon County area. Her name was Mary
Bell Wells and she married Willy David Hughes (also from Gordon County). Her
parents were Glenn Wells and Amanda Wells ( maiden name unknown). We are unsure
her exact birthdate, by the time she was old enough to draw social security she
had forgotten allot of information and her husband (Willy Hughes) had already
passed away. So when her son (my great uncle)
Silas Mote and Elizabeth Unknown were among the earliest settlers in the
Gordon/Whitfield, Murray. Tradition says White Plains was first names Silas
Mote. They had a large family who had some degree of prominence in the area.
One son Wells is said to have owned the land that eventually be came the
Resaca Memorial. Would love to hear from other Mote researchers. Especially
need to learn Silas' and Elizabeth's lineage. Thank you
I'm looking for information on William David Hayes who married Mary Ann
E. Timms in Murray County on Sept. 22, 1878. They lived near the
Murray/Gordon County lines. He is the father of B. Franklin "Frank"
Hayes.

I'm seeking information about my great grandparents James Marcus Lafayette
Bailey and Francis Harriet Lynch both of Gordon Co. They were married July
15, 1849. James joined the "Calhoun Blues" and was taken prisoner at
Vicksburg. Can anyone please tell me more about either of their parents?
My gg grandparents were General Charles Haney Nelson and Ruth Amanda Malvinah Dawson. I have information to share with anyone researching these families.

Hi Mary
I don't know of a connection (yet) but my Dawson line came from South
Caroline into Georgia and on into Alabama.
