Our ADAIR Family Bible says that John Smith ADAIR b 21 May, 1822 and Andrew Jackson ADAIR b. 13 May 1831 were both born in Locust Grove GA. The parents were James T. ADAIR and Anne (Annie) Smith ADAIR were listed in the 1830 census of Henry Co. GA. Could anyone tell me how I could find out the history of the Locust Grove area and possibly the names of the families or farms that were in that after settlers were allowed to settle the Creek Indian Lands abt. 1822? I believe that James ADAIR was either
According to the Butts County History Book, page 287, "Old Bethel Church,
the oldest church in the county, was constituted in 1789 while Butts County
was still Indian land..."

either! What's more, they change their first names! My Nancy Catherine is
aka Catherine Nancy, NC, CN, and Kitty. John Ambrose is also John Austin and
JA, Elijah Ambrose is often EA, and indistinguishable from another EA of the
same era and area... It's no wonder I cannot find my ancestor Elijah (father
of this brood and others). I'm not even sure that's his name! For all I know
he was John Elijah or William Elijah and
