Quietly and without fanfare, the public records office is letting web users access the 1901 census. Not since January have users been able to trawl through the 32m names on the register.
The site received 50m inquiries and at its peak was handling 1m inquiries an hour. Only 1.2m a day were expected. It seized
I'd like to add my voice to all those who have expressed their sincere
appreciation for Bonnie and her excellent administration of the list for
the past four years.
It will be difficult to follow in her footsteps.
About the time Bonnie started this list, I was teaching myself HTML so I
could put up a website dedicated to the history of the GALLAGHER surname
and all its variants.
On my way back from soldiering in Bosnia-Hercegovina in 1996, I took a
detour to County Donegal and Innis Owen, Ireland. My br

him regarding your Gallagher (and variant named) families. Michael is also

Just a longshot, but since you mentioned you had a Patrick Gallagher in
Massachusetts.....
My grandparents, Neil P. Gallagher and Bella Bridget Gallagher lived in
Quincy Mass. My grandfather had two brothers that came to the states with
him, Patrick and Murray. (Not sure of spelling, may be Murry or some other
spelling). All three brothers settled in New England. In your research,
have you come across any other Patrick Gallaghers that seem to match up with
this info.

If the location in Massachusetts was around the Lawrence area, there is a
possibility that some connection may exist with my Gallaghers. This is

location that my father used to visit . Please contact me off- list if there
is an interest. If it turns out there is a connection, then we can share the
outcome with the list, and give accurate information for all

Hi, Mary,
I wish! Asking about Michael (and I do think his wife may have been
Catherine) was to prompt a Clune connection response in County Clare.
Michael and Catherine may have been the parents of my g-grandfather,
Richard Gallagher, about whom I can find nothing of help. So I'm doing
a side search into the Clunes, who left Clare for Wayne Co., Pa. in
1841. They are known to be relatives. I have only some imperfect dates
that Richard was 25 in the 1860 census, that he was 40 when he made his
