Yes Carmen, you are right It is like the Gallup name There are so many different spellings Gallup, Gallop, Galloup, Galloupe, Gallupe, Gollop It really makes things confusing. I was reading an article that said one of the reasons that genealogy is so hard that when the census was done in England and in New England that when the census taker took names that he spelled it the way he pronounced it and if that was to hard even then people were named after the trade that they were in : as an example: Blacksmith,

Ah Sharon, I was just making an example...since I was at work, that was the best Gallup dates I could remember. However, you are correct about Phebe's last name...when the family arrived in this country, it was spelled De La Montagne...as in Johannes De La Montange. The name has changed to various other spellings. My branch and most of those in NY spells it Montanye. However, some still spell it Montagne, Montana, Montaney, or DeLamontagnie...this is a good lesson...if you have a name like Montanye, chec

Carol and Carmenjo, Just some minor clarifications on this information. There seems to be a little doubt as to who Williams father was although Benjamin is most likely. On the information on Hiram the wives should be reversed with Eliza A. being first and Eleanor second. Hiram and Eleanors oldest child, Abigail,is my greatgrandmother and was born in Clarence in 1856, She died in childbirth in Leon Iowa in 1886. I'm hoping to get tombstone photos from various locations in Mi. and NY as well as research on

Hello, all, I think you are part Harry Potter, Stephen, as you guided me to the Gallup Burying Ground via email a few years ago. When we finally found it (a man came out of his house to guide us) the gate was wide open and the men were cutting the grass. It was a message from above. This time, Fred Burdick and I climbed over the wall and now I KNOW I am going to be 60. He took me a different way so now I am hopelessly lost! Anyway, nice to know you were there in August as was I.
