Good advice, Rod. The old guidelines for writing a post seem to have been
forgotten. As we all want to help everyone as much as possible the old
journalistic rule of who (name), when (date), where, or what in the subject
line and body of the message will enable us to do that. Many of us read lots
of info and recognize names that are not even of our line. I have been able
to help a couple of people as I recognized the ancestor from the subject
line. Please...help us help you when we can. Wish we could
Hello all (both Gaddis and non-Gaddis researchers),
Since there are always new people beginning to use mailing lists, or
joining this list, maybe a little explanation will help.
There are two ways for the administrator to set the reply-to for mailing
lists. Either to the original sender, or to the list. For this list,
it is set so that when you hit Reply, it puts the mailing list address

Need info on a Thomas WATKINS - WADKINS and Margaret EDWARDS. They came to

Can not find Thomas nor Margaret on the 1830 - 1840 census or any records on

Any help would be appreciated.

We often hear the question concerning the frigid poses of the
photography of the 18th and 19th century. Here is website that tells
it all. Its interesting to know that our ancestors had a metal clamp
behind their necks held their heads still to prevent the picture from
blurring. They were told to be still and blink as little as possible.
This explains why many of these early photographs feature our
ancestors with fixed, blank stares, stiff positions and few smiles.
Exposure time was about a minute, as com
It appears that many of the new folks to the lists are just hitting
the reply line to get their message to the list. If you save, set up
your address book with all those you want to send queries to, it only
takes a couple of seconds to type in the TO: - it picks up the first
couple of letters of the address and then types out the rest for you
automatically. If you don't change the subject line and put the name
you are researching, chances are most of us will just delete it if it
isn't a name we know about
I appreciate that we all want to share info, but would it not be best to
share Gaddis data using your private email addresses rather than the Lumpkin
list?

I have some questions about Eliza Wallace. I know this is an old posting,
just hope you still check the site. I know that there were several John
Wallace's in the Lumpkin County area around this time. I am curious if
this John Wallace was the son of John Wallace and Susannah Palmour?
Don't you ever stay at home? Travel, Travel, Travel. Did you buy the

Hello Researchers -
I am not connected to either men. I am doing a research paper for my
college English class and need to find out where is the best place to find
out information on these men and their claims to be the first to 'discover
gold'.
Our library here in Greenville SC doesn't have very much. In fact, we
have one book by David Williams concerning the gold rush. They did have one
in circulation, but it has been lost.
Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
You may have noticed that Dan Pierce is now in charge of the GALUMPKI mail
list and the Lumpkin Genconnect Boards. He also will be the new webmaster of
the Lumpkin Genweb. Many of you are familiar with the excellent work he has
done for the Lumpkin page and the Hall page.
Please welcome him

I am not able to pull this up, is there another way that I can go??

Peggy,
In case you weren't aware of it, I saw a book on the Gaddis family when
I was in Lumpkin Co. last year. I think it was mostly typed and
photocopied 8 1/2 X 11 sheets bound into a book which was probably over
100 pages. A woman who was a Gaddis descendant showed it to me, but I
didn't really look through it, so I'm not sure what all it includes. It
did have a large all-name index.

Peggy you can write the library and ask someone to look and see if
there is a name of the author of that information in the Gaddis book
and sometimes there is an address. I will be glad to look the next
time I go there to see if I can find anything that might help you.
They usually have surname files also, with names and addresses of
folks looking for or who have additional information on that line.

Jennifer,
Unfortunately I can't help you in your quest for information on Parks or
Logan, but I am connected to the Cleveland's and the Safford's. I would love
to have a copy of your research paper, when it is complete if that would be
possible.

Sorry, no. The Marriage Book B does not have dates of any marriages.
However, there are 304 pages in jBook B, Pg l starting. in l849, Page
304 ending in l865. The known dates for reference are:
page 24--Jun l850
page 84= Dec l852
Page l25- Jan l855The page No. opposite Eliza and William is page l20.
Probably their marriage was between l852 and l855.. This marriage is
not listed in the original LCoGA marr register.
