2. Re: [GARRISON] Re: Lewis Garrison and Elizabeth Wright [1]
Diana, I didn't mean to imply that the Old Yellow Meeting House was their church. Just that it was on the same road as their farm. Cornelius and Mary (Garrison) Messlor are in fact buried on Emleys Hill, in the Methodist churchyard. Vincent Messler was a Methodist minister who road the circuit. He also performed many marriages in the area and was known for that. The Monmouth Co. Historical Association has a copy of the list he kept of the couples that he married. Some of his offspring, also bec

5. Re: [GARRISON] Re: Lewis Garrison and Elizabeth Wright [1]
Dee, I have a Garrison line in New Jersey. My fourth ggrandmother was Mary Garrison. Her father was Lewis Garrison, b 1770 - d 1827, md to Mary Wilkinson, b ? - d 1843. I believe that Lewis is from Cumberland Co, NJ. His parents were Jonathan Garrison and Mary Leake. I do not have information about other children that they may have had besides Mary b 1797. Your Lewis may trace back to this line. Wright is a surname found in New Jersey but I am not familiar with this line. Peggy Apostolos River
6. [GARRISON] Re: GARRISON-D Digest V01 #5 [1]
Hi all I have Garrisons in my line, all from Cumberland County, NJ. I have been reading the entries the past several days and have not seen any names of Garrisons that I think are from my line which is not unusual it seems no one is related to me or my line LOL. I have the NJ Marriage Index and would be happy to do lookup for any one that wants one. This CD covers marriage in NJ from 1680 to 1900 but the following NJ counties are not included on the CD.Hudson, Mercer,Ocean,Passiac, and Union. Other fa

8. [GARRISON] Re: Garrisons [1]
Harry: No, these are not the same people. The William that you are researching is the son of Aaron and Elizabeth Bridwell Garrison of Stafford County, I believe. Your William lived in Amherst County, Virginia at about the same time the William I am researching lived in Northwestern Albemarle County. Amherst was formed from part of southern Albemarle County, and sometimes people do confuse these two William Garrisons. Margaret ----- Original Message ----- From: To:

Grace: I have the name of his wife as Rebecca Gray, and the names of his sisters as Barbara, Rebecca, Dolly and Elizabeth. I don't have any verification on this information, however. Once I realized this wasn't the Garrison family I was looking for, I stopped my research on it. ----- Original Message ----- From: Grace Bell To: R Stavitski Cc: Sent: Tuesday, January 23, 2001 4:40 PM Subject: Re: [GARRISON] Re: Garrison Inform
10. [GARRISON] Lewis Garrison and Elizabeth Unknown [1]
Lewis Garrison and Elizabeth Unknown were married in Rockingham County, VA (WV) August 6, 1820. Is it possible that anyone has access to any marriage records that would indicate the parents of Lewis and Elizabeth or any other information regarding them? Thank you so much. Dee Randall Shenandoah Valley, VA
11. [GARRISON] Re: Garrison Information [1]
Rebecca Gray was a "Composite Person" derived from Leonard Garrison, Sr.'s wife Elizabeth Gray and Leonard Garrison Jr.'s wife Rebecca, maiden name unknown. Somebody evidently was confused by finding two wives for Leonard Garrison, without knowing that there were two Leonard Garrisons. Misinformation spreads rapidly on the internet. Leonard Garrison Junior and Senior were not father and son; "Junior" was the son of "Senior's" brother, Frederick. They were identified as Junior and Senior on tax and census r

Jackie: I have done some research on Samuel and Mary Johnson Garrison. He does have a son, Samuel, but I have his children as: Lucy, b. abt 1833 in Madison Cty, Ky., Margaret, b. abt 1837 in Madison Cty, Ky., Nancy, b. abt 1838 in Madison Cty., Ky., and Matthias Garrison, b. abt 1841 in Madison Cty., Ky. There was a group of people in Albemarle in Samuel's community, Free Union, who all moved to Madison County, Ky. about this time. I don't think the Samuel who is your ancestor is the son of Samuel
13. [GARRISON] Re: Garrison Information [1]
Many people mistakenly believe that Leonard Garrison's first wife's name was Mary Sykes; actually, this was his son Jonathan's wife. Brian Brian D. Core P.O. 15. Re: [GARRISON] Re: Lewis Garrison and Elizabeth Wright [1]
Dear Peggy, I hope you don't mind me asking, but where was your fifth ggrandfather, Lewis Garrison, living in 1827 when he died? And, his wife, Mary, when she died in 1843? What was their daughter, Mary's married name? Do you know the date of Jonathan and Mary (Leake) Garrison's deaths or where they were living when they died? I am trying to find the parents, siblings, etc., of Garret B. Garrison, born about 1798 in NJ. Your family names caught my attention since the names of Garret's children
16. [GARRISON] Re: Garrison Information [1]
Daphne: I'm not sure how the religions you mentioned were connected. I know that the Methodist religion was related to the Episcopal religion. In early Albemarle County, the only religion was the Episcopal Church. Then, as some Methodist churches sprang up, some called themselves "Methodist Episcopal". That may have been a disguise to stay out of trouble with the established religion. The meetinghouse that William Garrison in Albemarle started was the forerunner to the Wesley Chapel Methodist whic

Diana, I believe that Lewis Garrison died in Monmouth Co, NJ in 1827. I haven't been back to do deed work and figure out where his home was. In 1843, when his wife Mary (Wilkinson) Garrison died she was specifically living in the home of their daughter Mary in Upper Freehold Township, Monmouth Co, NJ. This farm was located on Red Valley Road not far south of the famed Old Yellow Meeting House in that area which is on the same road. Their daughter Mary had married Cornelius Messler/Messlor. I use

21. Re: [GARRISON] Re: Garrison Information [1]
Sorry, I don't have any information on this line of Garretsons. It looks like they came to America a little later than the line I have been researching. Perhaps they "Americanized" their name somewhere down the line; you can't be sure why they did it until you find the person who did it. Good luck. ----- Original Message ----- From: Dgarlyn@aol.com To: rstavitski@prodigy.net Sent: Tuesday, January 23, 2001 10:01 PM Subject: Re: [GARRISON] Re: Garrison Information Margaret do you have an

Margaret; Could you remind me how the Dutch Reform, Methodist, Church of Christ and other denominations were connected? Did some of them develop from or along side the others? Did some congregations amalgamate for convenience and then divide again as numbers warranted?. The reason I ask was that my greatgrandfather William Garrison (b, in Hart Co. KY in 1830 but raised in Wayne Co. IL) was instrumental in the building of the Gunion Church near Cisne, IL before his death in 1876. I believe it was called t
