It seems that there was a marriage between Amy Caroline Moody Turpin and
Littleton P. Dorman but for some reason it didn't last. Other than the
marriage record found, we now have some family oral history to back this.
We don't know that they divorced, but Amy is listed in the 1870 cenus with
the surname Turpin.

I've been trying to sort out the Sumter County Smiths, so glad to see the
recent posts. Mine was Thomas H. Smith who was born in 1816 and was thought
to have lived in Talbot and Muscogee Counties before coming to Sumter. He
married Nancy Carmichael in 1834. Nancy's father had come from Scotland to
the Carolinas to Sumter County and can be found on the 1840 census index
posted on the Sumter County GenWeb site. I have taken the liberty of
posting all the Smiths I see on the 1840 and 1860 census from that

I know that she was from Taylor County and married in Taylor County. I

But in my haste I failed to copy the census.
