1. HUTZELZIEDER from Burtenbach? [1]
I am hunting for a family named HUTZELSIEDER, who, from at least 1815 to 1915 lived in the parish of Burtenbach. I have not been able to find Burtenbach. Can someone tell me where it is? I would appreciate the help. Obviously, I would also be very greatful for any information on HUTZELSIEDER. My HUTZELSIEDER, August, came from Denmark to Norway in about 1820. Hiw wife had a Danish name. However, the name is clearly German, perhaps from Schleswig-Holstein? Thor Egede-Nissen
2. Muller or Mueller [1]
I read your posting in the German genealogy section with interest. I too have a g-grandfather by the name of Carl Friedrick Muller (Mueller) he was born in 1831 at Ukermark, Prussia. I beleive he came from a large family, some of his family also imergrated to other countries, I believe America was one of the destinations. Could it be possible that our family's are related? The double dots over the a, o, and u in german represents the ae, oe, and ue ligature. All diacritical markings have their origins as a letter. Now the dots in english, french, and other southern european countries do represent a separation of the vowels indicating they are not to be treated as ligatures. Now the question was posed what are the dots over y. This is dutch. You can have I and i, J and j, IJ and ij. The IJ ligature is sometime written as Y with the dots.

Hello, I recently discovered that my KNARR line hails from Zweibruecken and I was wondering if anyone out there may have more information. KNARR, I believe, is really KNOERR (umlauted o) but the spelling is various here in PA. Abraham KNERR was born 1716 in Zweibruecken, died April 21, 1793 . He immigrated to America and is buried in Ohio. Abraham's wife, Mariga Hunsicker, died March 1, 1875 and it is unknown at this time if she too was from Zweibruecken.
