So, who IS Michael Palmer? I not only saw his name las isted as a "relaible iable" source of German info, but I also found his name in a long German manifesto (I kn don't read German) and now, I'm REALLY curious! I Son meone told me that the name that I have been (doggedly) researching for -- "Hamler"-- is on the "Pommern" page on the Internet. What, please, is "Pommern"? (Not short for "Pomeranian? I have had loads of trouble for over 12 years now, trying to find the meaning of our family name, "Hamler." Does it relate to a person frok m "Hamburg. ?" It seems as if the Hamler's are from Southern Germany though, probaby L Palatines. If a name is old and dying out, would there be so few of us now? Is that wat hat the implication is, I ne mean?? Does anyone know where Saxony Meiningen is today? Is it near Thuringen and the city of Meiningen? Does anyone know where I should write for information about this area and about my great great great grandfather's parents who lived in area of Germany? ggg grandfather was Augustus Geyer and he was born on August 1, 1822. A poorly written 1880 US Census form listed "Saxmingen" as his place of birth and I am guessing that this was Saxony Meiningen. Other Census forms simply say that he was born in Saxony. H

Is "Hamler," the surname, a Palatine name? I have been assuming that it was because of my family's immigration patterns... from E Jersey and New Jersey and Pennsylvania to Ohio; also there are many (well, a for a "Hamler" there are "many") Hamler's in Virginia where the Palatines were also "let of f the boat" in the 1700's. There are only 300 people named "Hamler" in the US (according to telephone book) and there a is a very small town in Ohio, the German region, called "Hamler, Ohio." How c

Pommern was Pomerania. After WWII all ethnic Germans were forced to leave the area which is now located mostly in Poland. There is a Pomeranian Society: Pommerscher Verein Freistadt P.O.
