I would appreciate information on Jean Baptiste Ferran who was baptized on 02
Dec 1821, paroise Vaychis, diocese Pamiers. He was the son of Jean Pierre
Ferran and Anne Laset (or Anne Alazet).
Jean Baptiste Ferran came to America at an early age and became a well-known
merchant in New Orleans, Louisiana, where he died on 19 April 1894.
It would seem that the letter "d" was added to the name in America. John
Baptiste and his descendants are known as "Ferrand".
Best regards,

The standard practice was to fully identify women by their maiden name
even when they were married. The birth certif

Hello, Laurent:
Dorotea Guerra/Guerro wrote a letter in French from Algeciras, Spain, on 10
December 1854 to her Uncle,Manuel Bornio.
Mamuel Bornio, a native of Zaragoza, Spain, was living in La Habana at this
time. He married Dolores Vargas-Machuca about 1854. Manuel Bornio was in the
tobacco business in LaHabana, Cuba and New Orleans, Louisiana,USA.
All I know of Dorotea is what is contained in this letter which con-gratulated
her Uncle on his approaching marriage to

The 100-year privacy rule doesn't apply to death records. You may have
more trouble with a marriage record. It might work better to
have one of your cousins, children of this aunt, request the record.

My dismay (since I had planned to visit the Burton collection the next
time I passed the cultural center) would be modified if the inventory led
to a complete online catalog within a few months. The oldest portions of
this vast collection are in the card file but not the online catalog (much
of the library's collections are like that). It would be much more
valuable if those visiting could plan their their time with a list of what
to consult already in hand when they walked in the door.
Sadly, the invent

Hello:
I am interested in learning about the family of Jean Baptiste
Ferran/Ferrand,son of Jean Pierre Ferran and Anne Lazet (or Anne Alazet) of

The listing of the Jerphanion family included the name Ferrand.
Any information would be appreciated.

I would suggest you take it to your nearest Catholic High School. You could
possibly find help in both Latin and French there. I'm fortunate that my next
door neighbor is a second generation Frenchman and a professor of Medival Latin
at Catholic U. in Washington, D.C. Good luck.

'ondoye' means:
"Ondoyi" - baptised at home, either by the midwife or some member of the
family; a
normal procedure, in case of a difficult birth. Should the child survive, the
home-made
baptism was later made valid by being recorded in the Church registers.
as defined by previous writer, Helene Lamarche.
Under NO circumstance does 'ondoye' mean:
"Ondoye" means to sway or ripple - "Surveille" - you got right. So, I
would say that the child died during a seizure while being observed.
