1. Re: vx. on Visitation of Surrey [1]
"vx" abbreviates "uxor" and should show at least the surname of the person to whom the daughter was married.
2. Robert Devereux, 2nd Earl of Essex [1]
Did Robert Devereux (1566-1601), 2nd Earl of Essex have any illegitimate offspring? If so, are any details known regarding their lives? Thank you. Charles Ward
3. Re: Origins of Gundreda, wife of William de Warenne [1]
Frederick's name does not appear. That Gundred was a sister of "Gerbod II" seems to have been stated in several other places but Warlop apparently did not concern himself with the Gundred problem.

6. Mother of Richard II de Normandie [1]
Oops! I was asking about the mother of Richard II, not Robert I. Is there very little known about her? Thanks! ~Tatjana >1. 9. King Manfred of Sicily (1232-1266) [1]
I realize that this is more a medieval history than a medieval genealogy query, but, having no luck over at soc.history.medieval, I thought I might take a chance and ask for assistance from the scholars who post here. I am looking for English-language histories which cover in some detail the reign of King Manfred of Sicily (1232-1266). The only one I have found is Runciman's "Sicilian Vespers." Can anyone suggest other works? Thank you in advance. Steven Lavallee
10. Re: David Greene's Lawrence study? [1]
The article you seek is in The Genealogist 10:3-30 (1989, published in 1994). A copy of the issue is available from A.P.S.G., LTD., 255 North 200 West, Salt Lake City, Utah for $15.00 inclusive of postage. A line is traced to Charlemagne through Adelaide, sister of William the Conqueror, and two generations of the Bull family are included with full documentation.
11. Re: Genealogy to Time of Christ and Ancient Genealogy Fragments re-examined. [1]
OED calls "bar sinister" a "popular, but erroneous, phrase" denoting illegitimacy. Bad heraldry but not gibberish.

14. Possible DFA from the Emperor Claudius ? [1]
Occasionally the subject of a DFA from the Julio-Claudian family of the 1st century A.D. surfaces and is quickly shot down. History just does not leave much room for any member of this family to have survived the conspiracies of the time. Just being a relative of one of the five emperors of this family was the kiss of death. However, be that as it may, at least two family members survived the bloodletting of the last emperor of this family, Nero, who commited suicide on 9 June A.D. 68. The first was Jun
15. Mother of Robert I de Normandie [1]
Is the mother of Robert I "the devil" de Normandie named Gunnor (Gunhilde) DE CREPON, daughter of Herbastus DE CREPON of Denmark? Were they of a noble family? And are there any notable relatives of this DE CREPON family? Thanks for everyone's help! ~Tatjana

18. Children of Roger Mortimer, 1st Earl de March [1]
Can anyone enlighten me on the children of Roger Moritmer, 1st Earl de March and his wife, Joan de Genivill? My 1915 edition of Browning's, _Magna Charta Barons and Their Descendants_, lists Maud Mortimer as their daugher. It lists her husband as John, 3rd Baron Cherleton. Thans for any help.

21. Re: Ancestors of Egbert? [1]
The father of Egbert is known, but the two generations before him are supposed to have been concocted to provide a link with the family of King Ine. Egbert was a name used by the family of the kings of Kent and it is just possible that this house is in Egbert's paternal or maternal ancestry, but so far as I know no proof has actually come forth to support this theory.

A number of the pedigrees require correction in the light of more recent research. Some of the DFA specialists who post may have more details.
23. Re: Margaret Conyers, b.c. 1515? [1]
The early volumes of CP are poor on younger sons and daughters not heirs, so your question is not answered there. One of the Visitations of the North published by the Surtees Society might well answer your question.

25. Re: Beauchamp of Ryme, Devonsh.c. 1365 [1]
The Beauchamps of Ryme Intrinseca, co. Dorset are descended from (Sir) Humphrey de Beauchamp of Ryme, dead by 1317, a younger son of Robert and Alice (Mohun) de Beauchamp of co. Somerset. The Beauchamps of Ryme and of Lillesdon, co. Somerset, both families extinct by 1420, are descendants of this branch.
