I am looking for information on my ggrandmother, Jennie (Denike) Bailey. She
was born in Sept. 1854 "in New York state." She married Daniel Bailey
around 1870-71. Thier first child was born in 1872. They settled in Sussex
Co., NJ where the Baileys were from. I have checked some of the Denikes
listed in the 1860 NY census index and didn't get anywhere. If anyone might
have a clue to help me find data on Jennie Denike I would be very greatful.

Another suggestion is to visit the USGenWeb Project web pages
(http://www.usgenweb.com). They are working on web pages with
information about resources for every state *and* county.
I believe USGenWeb will be a very important source of genealogy
information on the web!

Thanks for the information. It makes perfect sense. I always wondered how

My husband's ancestor Joseph Stone Phillips was born in Buffalo and became a
FM minister after the family moved to Algona, IA. Three of his sons also
became ministers.
Is there a repository in NY for church records? It would be interesting to
see whether the marriage and birth records for the family exist.
Thanks again for your kindness.

Here is more slave lore that might especially interest anybody descended from
the Nicoll-Sill family of Bethlehem (Cedar Hill), NY. This is culled from
Robert Davison's paper on the Nicoll-Sill homestead, and his sources range from
correspondence with the Sill family to an article in the January, 1925 edition
of the NY Genealogical & Biographical Record:
In the early 1700s, Rensselaer Nicoll and Elizabeth Salisbury received a slave
as a wedding present. In 1737 the slave gave birth to a boy named Caesar.

We are looking for information re George W. Jones, born in the 1850's,
who lived in Schenectady and worked for the Westinghouse Company - he
was the son of Abigail Westinghouse & William Morgan Jones - he
apparently lived next door to or around the corner from the Stone family

member, she remembers him living there and calling him "Uncle George."
This has been a missing link in our Jones/Westinghouse line for some

To all of us frustrated New York researchers:
I wonder if the LDS Church has been denied access to the NYS vital
records? Since they have filmed the NYC vital records and they are
available via Salt Lake and the Family History Centers, maybe this might
be a way to solve the problem.
It's obvious that NYS sees genealogy as a burden not as a potential money
maker. If they let the LDS film the records then the genealogical problem
would be off their back, so to speak.
Does any NYS resident on our group know a
