I precise the census information in my "notes". And the top line of these
Notes lists the Census Year that this person appears on. So, at a glance, I
can see if I have further information on this person, just by looking at the
main card.

Thanks, Sue. Thats pretty well the way that I have my Census info at the
present time, but Im not as happy as I might be. Especially I would like
to have the age and place listed. And I use the Notes section quite a bit
for other information that immediately helps to distinguish this particular
person. It is not a huge problem; I still like Generations better than any
other application that I have; its just this Census thing Thanks again
for your input.

Hi
Many thanks for all the helpful comments on my problem. The
problem seems to be resolved now, and my engineer says that the
cause lay in McAfee, and was to do with "running a script". This
may mean more to some of you than it does me.
Thanks again

Daryl,
The .rcx file that you have received was probably created by Reunion
for Windows or Generations v4.2. You also need the remainder of that
family of files including those with the extensions .fdb .ndb .ndx
.pdb and .pdx as well as the .rcx, all of which are needed to be able
to open the family file. If you can obtain all of those I will
attempt to convert them to a GEDCOM file.
Which family history program is your friend using now?
The alternative is for them to purchase the latest Generations v8
According to http://www.cybertechhelp.com/fileextensions/R, the .RCX
extension is associated with Lego Mindstorms Robotics Invention
System. What program did your friend use to create the file?

Can anyone suggest a way to display (i.e. 'list') Census information on the
family card. I would like this to be in view when the 'person' or 'family'
is opened. What would be great is a quick list of census basics on this
person.
Obviously I need to display vital information, as well as 'occupation', and
'Notes'; also, census info should print on the 'person report' and 'family
report'. At least --

I have created an event for each census year. When inputting the data, I use
the actual census date in the date field (couldn't find a way to have this
done automatically), and put the place in the place field. In memo I put the
relationship to head, condition and age, and anything else of interest.
Occupation goes the person field of that name, with the date in brackets
following. I have created a view which shows birth, then each of the
censuses, and the death, so I can see how it all fits together,
I too use the address field

I have created a new event called census and then in the place field
(not the date field) I have filled in the census years that I have for
that person. The actual details of the census are entered into a
source linked to that event. A - means that I need to locate a census
year, n/a means that someone was not born until the few years before
the first census shown and = is used for when someone has died.
1841 1851 1861 1871 1881 1891 1901 would indicate that I have
collected a census for every year
Hi Helen
I put in the first line of the notes field, this sort of format
Found in the 1841, 1851, 1861 n/f, 1871 census 1881 deceased
In occupation I do this
1841 -Farm Labourer, 1851 - Farmer etc
I have in the address field
1841 - Reed Farm, etc
1851/61 - Tan Yard Farm etc
I do not have Religion or Education on view so I can see more of the notes
field.
It is not ideal but I can see at a glance if I have lost someone in a
census.

What I do is have flags corresponding to each census:
1851 OK
1861 OK
...
1901 OK
And I set these when I find the person on that census or if they were not alive
at that point. This is doubly useful as I can then search for (e.
I have been sent a .RCX file by a friend and asked to convert it to a

I have attempted to research this task on the web without success.
Happy to receive suggestions.

Close down Reunion
Open up the Finder (on your Dock if you are running Tiger OS 10.4)
Find the MyFamily file
Change its name
Restart Reunion.

It will return to the default view if you double click on the name bar.

You may need to rebuild the index. Try it anyhow:

I think you are quite right to double click on the name bar to open up
for amendment. etc. I also think that this is a bug in Generations that
it then changes the view to the Default one.

Thanks Tim,
You led me to the solution. When I edited the Index, I found the box
checked "Show Male Only". After changing to "Show All", suddenly 8000 more people
showed up, and I learned more about the index. (My apologies to all the
females out there.) Nice to have someone smarter than I am to guide me. Bill

justify the cost of buying a Mac just for that.

Hallo,
I wonder if anyone can help with what I think are 2 simple problems, but after hours of trying I still cannot solve them!
I use generations V8.5a and have my 4 main families as separate files. Under Options/Define/Views I have added my own view and this fine for one family, but on the other 3 it intermittently returns to the default view.
My second problem is that I have now added a new family and again have defined my own view which being exactly the same as the one mentioned above, has "Rema
