Hallo Roger,
Many thanks for that.
I can't believe how stupid I've been! Having spent ages trying all the "complicated" things I had completely missed the obvious one, to tick the "Include Sources"!

Hello Ann
This problem sounds as though your new keyboard is interfering with
Generations, is it a wireless keyboard? It could be causing the
Disappearing Data Syndrome. My Logitech mouse driver causes this symptom and
I have to make sure that I exit the 'fancy' features before I open
Generations, then all is well.
Have a look at Mike Hobart's web page concerning Program interactions with
Generations at :

Which sub-version? Was it 8.5a?
And which operating system?

You have not said which operating system you are using; this might be
important.
Try one of these:
(a) Read through Mike Hobart's excellent Generations Tips on:
http://users.sisna.com/mhobart/Generations/Generations%20Tips.html
There are one or two on machine freezes.
(b) Save your file as a compact file,
I don't believe I have seen this problem written up. I installed the new version of Generations. Level 8.5.1 is from the Get Information Report. (8.5a dated June 6, 2002 is the level in Easy Tree Help.) All my reports are okay except the Family Group Sheet and Person Sheet. The events Birth, Death and Burial print over two lines. That is, the date and place of the event are over two lines instead of on one line. (Dec 14, 1841 is on one line and the place of Silesia is on the second line).
I also have

Generations 8.5.0.1 freezes when I click "List relationships"
Any ideas why, or what I can do about this?
What with all the other bugs which the present owners have no
intention of fixing, perhaps the best thing to do would be to abandon
Generations altogether.

Hi everyone,
I have a problem. I lost the power supply on my computer so have had to
get it fixed and I also have a new hard disk drive. I am in the
process of importing all my information from my old backups. I first of
all couldn't find the discs for Generations, so downloaded Legacy (I
have used it before) and and then I imported my backup into Legacy, no
problems at all.
When I got my Generations disc, which I got a copy from a friend who
has the same version. I then tried and tried and tried
Hello All
Have you ticked the Include Sources box shown at the first step of obtaining
a report?
This works perfectly with my version of Generations v8.5a.
PS. I assume that you have installed the Generations v8.5a update patch
which is required and is available from TWR computing ???

Hi
I am having a problem with the above and I apologise if this has been
covered before.
I have the latest version from TVR computing which replaced my old version 8
UK. But I still have it on the PC so I used it to compare the 2 versions of
Family Group Sheet
With my up to date version certain Family group Sheets will not list the
sources - it looks like it wants to as 'Sources' is the last word on the
page but even if I add a few spurious children to force it to print a page 2
it still will not
I am having a problem with my Generations 8.5 (go figure). One family with
several children, who were put in as I found them are out of order by date.
When I click on the "children" button to sort them nothing happens. It will
not allow me to sort the children and put them in order by date. Does
anyone know why this is happening and how to fix it?
Thanks,
Vivian

I have been asked off-list if Leister Productions would convert a
Generations file to run on the latest version of Reunion.
The answer is yes, though I suspect they will only do this if you buy
the program directly from them (or you could ask your Reunion vendor if
they can do the conversion). But I subsequently found there were two
problems:
(a) Coloured text in Notes was changed to a different and barely
visible other colour, e.g. Black to very faint Grey and Maroon to
pale Yellow.
(b
Yes, I can create the Family Group Sheet in Word document and the date and
birth are put on one line. However, the formatting of the lines are all
lost.
Thanks

I'm just catching up on my email and read the Aug 4 email from Tim on the
second line for the place of the event. It appears I will need to stay with
Generations 8.0 to have my FGS's print out correctly. I don't have time to
edit every report.

I have just had to buy a new keyboard and rather strangely I cannot retain any numerical dates. For example: I want to enter born 1900 at Wisbech, but when saved only the Wisbech part will be there. I have checked that all is well on a Word document, it appears to only be a problem on Generations. Any numbers put in the DATE column of the Edit Person card will disappear, but if I put 1900 Wisbech in the PLACE column the numbers will remain as saved.
I would be so grateful for any advice.

I have been asked off list if I thought it would be possible to:
(a) Generate a GDECOM on TMG (The Master Genealogist, a genealogy
program) where the questioner held their data,
(b) Import this GEDCOM into Generations,
(c) Not lose any data during this import,
(d) Create am Internet Family Tree on Generations and put this on a
web-site.
The advantage of doing this is that the Generations Internet Family Tree
is picked up by Google and presumably by other such search engines.
Hallo Tim,
Having read Fiona's message I've realised that I am also unable to show my sources in any of the reports.
I've followed your advise and checked on the OPTIONS in the tool bar, but the IGNORE is not ticked. As you are able to show your sources I wonder if you have any other advice?
Like Fiona, I'm using the latest version Generations v8.5a from TWR computing

From reading recent mail it appears that I am rather behind the times.
I am still running Reunion version 4.07 from Leister Productions.
Because this started on a computer with smaller capacity, and backup was on floppy discs, different branches of the family are in separate files. I would like to be able to combine them to one file, now that I am running on Windows XP. I suspect that I would also like better reporting options, and the possibility of showing what is reasonable hypothesis and what establ

Curiously I have found that date and birth are put on the one line if
you just create the Family Group Sheet to RTF File and then print.
