7. if you are illegitimate or a mother and searching but havent got a clue due to the official policy of ignoring this problem. [1]
Ireland has a diabolical record when it comes to women's and children's rights. Most Adopted adults in Ireland are in total ignorance of just how far behind Ireland is in this area. Ireland is 26 years behind Britain !. In Britain you only have to wait a few weeks ,and 'voila' the state will have found your mother for you. Here it can take years ,if you don't know what you are doing. The state is only interested in helping the church cover up the irregularities committed and does not give a damn about the s

12. Re: Anglo-Irish Background Readings [1]
I too, would be interested in learning about English immigrating to Ireland in the 17th century as my English family did just that, and I'm trying to locate where in England they came from. I know that England encouraged such migration during the Industrial Revolution during which time the Penal Laws were enforced. Namely that only "Protestant" could go to school, own land, or have their own businesses. There were many other laws besides these three but the whole idea was to force the "native" or Celtic Ir

15. List of Ordained Priests 1850-1900 [1]
20 Oct 01 Is there such a thing as a directory of Roman Catholic priests who were ordained in Ireland in the years 1860 to 1900? Had a great uncle named either Edmund Kerrigan or Edward Kerrigan who immigrated to the Boston area. I would like to find the seminary in Ireland he attended. Believe he was from County Leitrim, possibly Kinlough. Nan

17. 1851 census lookup [1]
Could sks please lookup in the 1851 census the name McNally (possibly McAnally). I am trying to find John McNally and his wife Elizabeth and their daughter Susanna. Susanna was born in 1846 according to the 1900 US census. She was married in 1861 in Carrickcroppan, Lower Killeavy, Armagh, Ireland. Someone told me that the marriage usually took place in the town / parish that the bride lived and worshipped, so I assume this might be where they lived. If someone could help me that would be greatly appreciate

20. John Dillon MP [1]
I am trying to find the exact link between my ggf, FREDERICK SMYTH and JOHN DILLON MP, member for Mayo 1885-1918 and leader of the Nationalist Party. I know my ggf was his nephew, but do not know exactly how, as neither JOHN DILLON nor his father JOHN BLAKE DILLON, where married to a SMYTH. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I can find details of other members of the DILLON family. Thanks in advance. John john p smyth
21. Re: The Cronin surname [1]
> I am currently trying to trace the roots and beginnings of the Cronin >surname, is there anybody out there who give me any helpful extracts from >books etc. I may suggest a comment from Joe Cronin who helps administer the O'Leary clan reunion in Incheigeelagh on this. He suggested that the name derived from the harpists who played for the Kings of Ireland and/or the O'Neills in medieval times before they settled in Cork/Kerry area. This is only hearsay but may have the ring of truth somewhere ? "Irish law is the oldest, most original, and most extensive of mediaeval European legal systems. It is a unique legal inheritance, an independent indigenous system of advanced jurisprudence that was fully evolved by the eighth century. It is also far less well known than it deserves." - Donnchadh S Corrain If you are interested in discussing Brehon law, please join in at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/fenechas
24. Obituary for Terence Kelly [1]
On August 3, 2001, I posted an obituary for a Winifred Kelly, my grandmother. She lived near Monasteraden in county Sligo and died on February 21, 1921. Her husband, Terence Kelly, died on February 3, 1907. His headstone reads Terence Kelly of Coolavin. I'm not having any luck with the local library in getting a copy of an obituary from the Monasteraden area so I'm going to take a long shot here. Is there a special way to obtain inter library loans for these newspapers? If not, could someone from the Slig
