I am hoping someone will be able to help me with some information. I am trying to do deed research on a property in Cross Keys, Va known as the Cross Keys Tavern (also known as the Rodham Kemper House. I have read that Rodham Kemper (married Ann Kisling) opened a store in this building from 1823-1845 and tha

Hi Folks. This is my first post here. My appologies for cross posting. You may see the following on other sites.
I am a descendant of Michael Coons (b ca 1742). Researchers in my family believe that Michael and Elder John Coons were brothers, but we have not been able to find proof.

Hi Jennifer,
Rodham Kemper is my gggg-grandfather. Are we related? I have a book entitled "Virginia Valley Records" by John W. Wayland (1930) that has a little info about his property:
Pg. 312
"Rodham Kemper came to the Valley in 1811 or 1812, and took charge of the store of his uncle, Colonel Jose

Judy, I appreciate your information. I kept the posting you sent to the

Hi, Virginia,
Yes, that is a sad story. Col. John Field is my 5G-grandfather! This line
ties into my Germanna line when his great-granddaughter, Lucinda, married
William Conway Shields, whose grandmother was Ann Rector, daughter of
Frederick Rector of Germanna. These families are very interesting (at
least to me!) Lucinda was the granddaughter on the other side of Col. John
Hardin, killed by Indians in 1792, that Hardin CO., KY is named for.
Both Col. John Field and Col. John Hardin are DAR ancestors.
The eighteen hundred and thirty-third note in a series on the Germanna Colonies
In the last note, I claimed that the people at the German Lutheran Church
in the Robinson River Valley during the period from 1750 to 1800 acted in a
narrow range of ways that permits us to deduce some relationships among the
people. The ways in which they acted were not unusual; in fact, they are
probably the way in which many of us would act today.
There is certainly one individual in the community who seems to defy the
I re- subscribed to the list on January 6th. However it appears that I am not
receiving any of Germanna queries / email.

I have not been able to find the source of the following article. I would appreciate it if anyone could tell me where it originally came from.

Rev. Paul Hinkle mentions an Abraham Miller in his autobiography. I found
an Abraham Miller last night but younger than what you are looking for. His
parents were John and Catherine Bowman Miller, married in Rockingham, Va.
which is also the location for some of Rev. Hinkle's career. Abraham Miller
was mentioned in 1816 so think this would be an older Abraham than John's
son born in 1807. The John Miller family also moved to Tennessee. Jane
