Is there anyone on the list related to Gilmores from the Tucker co. WVa once VA area? I believe David Gilmore b. 1797 Va. came to the Horseshoe Run area of Tucker co. in the early 1800's with his wife Elizabeth (Reay?). They had a daughter Clorinda who married Frank Spessert there, they were my ggrandparents. I believe David is related to the Rockbridge or Rockingham Gilmore families. His marriage may have been in Hardy co. VA where there was also a Matthew Gilmore and Shobes that were married there. Severa
Greatgrandfather was Benjamin Franklin Gilmore, b.1836 in RI (married Sarah
Freeborn) who was son of George Washington Gilmore b. 1790 in RI. Have not
been able to link further back although there were a large number of
Gilmore's in adjacent area of MA descended from James Gilmore and Thankful
Tyrrel who were married in 1720. Early RI census also lists a Nathaniel
Gilmore but have been unable to establish any connection. Would appreciate
input from anyone who has data on this line.

I could not say for sure that Patrick wasn't a son of John Gilmore, son of
James and Martha Dennison Gilmore. However, I have never found the name
Patrick used in this line of Gilmores and no trace was found of a Patrick
Gilmore in Pulaski Co., KY where John moved to in the 1700's from Rockbridge
Co. John did not leave a will - only an estate - so no listing of his
children.

I am glad I posted as it appears to helped several people.
I am afraid I have no information on this family, my daughter
does research in Rockbridge on the Armentrout family and
related family.
If you would like the exact location of this cemetery, yes,
it is Rockbridge Co. VA., please contact her at bca@tcia.net
her name is Donna.
I will remind folks, I am still trying to pin down a Matthew
Gilmore in Gallia and Lawrence Co. Ohio. ;-)
Happy hunting all,
Mary Anne

This may be a descendant of the Patrick Gilmore we are referring to, born

Interesting!
I wanted to list what I know so far about the Gilmores in my family.
William Milton Gilmore. B- in Indiana, and married to Elizabeth M. in 1865
Lodi Columbia Wis.
Three sons
Harry A.( My Greatgrandfather)B- 7/9/ 1868 in Indiana. He married Grace H.
and then moved to & lived in and around the Chicago, ill area.
John E.

May have a tie into Maryland Gilmores?
Thanks

A Samuel Gilmore is in Lawrence Co. Mason Twp in 1850 Census, age 36,
b. Ohio, parents b. PA., wife Margaret age 37, dau. Rebecca age 11,
Anna age 7, John age 5, Mary age 4. Then gone by 1860 when Matthew
Gilmore moves from Gallia to Lawrence Co. Does anyone connect to
this line?
Mary Anne
Not related, but I have tried to find the connection. Not
only is there Shobe/Gilmore/Gilmer marriages, an ARMENTROUT
which is a very old Rockbridge VA family, ends up in WVA.
then to Ross Co. Ohio
with the Matthew and Elizabeth Shobe Gilmer family. I cannot
decide if they all migrated to WVA from VA. or ended up there
by coincidence and start intermarrying.
To confuse the matter of my family even more, my grandfather
a grandson of Matthew and margaret Coffee Gilmore moves to
Ross Co. from Lawrence Co. Oh
Dear Carl,
Thank you so much. Yes, for my Gilmores there is a big
connection to Fond De Luc, along with other members of the family. My GG
grandfather William would have been born either in Indiana, or Ws, 1840's.
However, he married in Lodi,Columbia WS in 1865. His children were born in
Jeffersonville, IN.
The family moves around from Mclean Co. ILL, to several places in Indiana,
and WS.
They did settle in Chicago I believe, but there is also mention of Colgate
Maryland.
My Williams
Dorothy,
I know we have talked about this earlier this year; it really seems strange
that there is more than one Mary "Peachy" Gilmer at about that time! I can
only empathize with you; I share the same frustration not being able to find
any correct information on William and Martha (Patsy) Gilmore, the parents
of my Samuel Gilmore (born ca 1825 Chatham Co., NC). One of these days
we'll get that breakthrough.

I believe part of Rockbridge Va became WVA when WVA became a state. Some of
my other ancestors not related to Gilmores married Armentrouts from
Pendleton co.(which was part of Rockingham, Hardy, and Augusta co. Va.) and
Randolph co.which was once part of Rockingham VA. Hardy co. was once part of
Augusta and Frederick co. Va.
. Tucker co. was part of Randolph co. before it split off. So you see they
didn't have to migrate to WVA it was where they already were and it later
became WVA. Someday maybe we will f
how about this one.
