This was posted to another list that I subscribe to. I thought that it
was interesting and a bit of a pick me up since all we have been hearing
about for the past while was the destruction of records. Finally someone
wants to preserve records.

I am new to this list, and am wondering if anyone has information on John Greaves, who was born in Macclesfield, Cheshire, England in 1859. According to his marriage certificate, his father was also John Greaves, whose occupation was listed as "foreman". At this point I do not know his mother's name.
John Greaves joined the Royal Marines, and married Elizabeth Ann Springate in New Brompton, Kent in 1886. They had two children, Albert and Minnie Louisa, both born in Gillingham, Kent.

Tim Gilbert asked about asked about his Greaves family of Macclesfield.
Although we don't have enough information to show a connection, it is very
possible that he is descended from the family shown in genealogy 334 on the

Tim;
Here is a website that will help you out obtaining the records you are
looking for. You will need to do some back ground research first though.
Do you know his unit or service number? The web site will walk you through
step by step.

As well, down at the very bottom of the letter you will see and address

There is a Greaves family Bible for sale on e-Bay. This same Bible was offered in January, and I received the following from the seller:
"Joseph Greaves married Clara Vickers 4/19/1882. The minister was Amos Johnson of Philadelphia. Their are about 40 entries. The Greaves family is the start. It also mentions grandchildren, Bronn (or Broun or Brown), Greaves and Rex and Vickers. Now that I look again, it is the Brown family. Also mentions a Boon family. Their are 2 Baptisms mentioned, 1: Edna Greaves 3/3/
The poster accidentally sent a link to another family Bible. Below is the
correct link for the Greaves family Bible:

Tim, have you tried obtaining his military records from the Royal Marines, I
received my great grandfathers and there was an amazing amount of
information in it. I found a brother that the family never knew about. It
is worth a try right.

Hi everyone, I think that from time to time we all need a little distraction
and humour in lives. Especially when we are researching our brick walls and
we feel like all we are doing is running into the wall rather then climbing
over it. I hope that everyone enjoys this genealogy joke.
