Dear Listers,
I am a Melbournite helping to index some 1939-1940 West Australian funeral directors' records. In trying to identify some difficult-to-read ones I have successfully used the government place names site, and Karrakatta records on the web. However, some still are causing difficulties. I have run into trouble with the following:

G'day Carolyn,
Couldn't resist the challenge, to check out my web links, so I tried:
1. Multimap search:
This didn't find a direct match, but it did find many alternative
possible matches in Eastern Europe.
2. Global Gazetteer:
This doesn't have a search, but checking out Uzbekistan then 'Sa'
The most promising appears to be 'Saratovskiy' complete

Hi
I have just completed a link page with approximately 100 links which relate
to frequently asked questions on the various e-mail lists.
The site at http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Canyon/6387/links.html would
be worthwhile bookmaking for future reference it contains links relating to
Heraldry, Military, Telecommunications, Early Occupations and Medical Terms,
Royality, Religion, Tombstone Abbreviations.
While I have included aditional input the concept was inspired by Alan Eade

Any lister with links/knbowledge of (either) Agnes (7) and Annie (6), born Scotland, who arrived in Victoria on the Thomas Fielden, 1854, with parents John Robertson (d.1908) and Elizabeth McLean (d.1904). The family were at and around Ballarat until c.1875 when they moved to Newcastle, NSW. It is believed by this time Agnes and Annie might have married and remained in Victoria. There is no reference to either in the bereavement notices for her parents who died in the early 1900's which could indicate they

over 10000 Outgoing referals and over 9000 incoming referals.

Hi Alan,
Check out the Family History Library Catalog for Quarter Sessions held in
that area of Devon around the time of the child's birth. Look for the
nearest big town where the Sessions would be held. Bastardy Bonds were
often set down in these Quarter Session Records.

Hi all,
That was St James, not St John's. Now called "St James Old Cathedral".
There are still things like "Church place" and "St James Court" around on
it's old site - have a look in the Melways.

DPS Netters,
I have received advice re : Newspaper & Police Gazette too and was
a little surprised upon reading about the release on line of Newspapers
and Victorian Police Gazette. My surprise being that I had several years
ago, in association with the State Library of Victoria, undertaken to
prepare
data from the Victoria Police Gazette original books so that Frances
Brown could prepare microfiche for resale with profits being fed back
for future projects at the S.L.V..

I have a copy of a relative's funeral card that gives her burial place as 'Novaja Saratoffskaja Colony Cemetery'. The date of death is given as August 29th/September 11th 1902 indicating that the place of death had a different calendar to ours. I have tried the internet and Russian atlases with no success. Can anyone help me? Thanks.
